3 - RETROFIT FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF R-410A BY R-454B
Important: This leak detector uses infrared technology, without
calibration (self-calibration).
● If the unit incorporates the leak detector for R-410A (optional)
it must be removed from the unit before installing the new
detector. Another option is to override it in the electronic
control, on the CU12 screen of the graphic terminal.

Step 4: Installation of the new software version

● Proceed to the software update of the "50FC" control (new
version 14.3), using the SMARTKEY programming key or a
laptop with pCOManager.
Connect the power supply and check that the loaded version
is correct. Then access the group: G. GENCONFIG
Confi g. (protected by level 3 password). On the CU12 screen,
select the refrigerant R-454B and activate the "A2L sensor"
(leak detector for R-454B).

• The parameter "Time ret. AL" (by default, 180 seconds)
allows setting the delay time so that when a warning appears
on the sensor it does not become an alarm. After this period
the PROTECTION MODE will be activated.

• The parameter "%LFL AL" (by default, 50%) allows to adjust
the percentage of the LFL from which the refrigerant leak
failure occurs (ON of the hysteresis cycle). With this value
the unit starts operating in PROTECTION MODE.
• The parameter "%LFL reset" (by default, 10%) allows to
adjust the percentage of LFL (Lower Flammability Limit)
below which the refrigerant leak alarm stops (OFF of the
hysteresis cycle). With this value the unit ends up operating
in PROTECTION MODE.
• The parameter "%Fan Prot. Mode" (by default, to 100%)
allows to adjust the percentage of the airfl ow rate of the
indoor fans (supply and also return if available) when the
unit starts operating in PROTECTION MODE.
The PROTECTION MODE instantly disables the compressors
and support elements, activates the indoor fans (supply and
also return if available) at 100% of airfl ow (parameterizable)
and opens the fresh air damper at 100% (if available). This
happens temporarily, as long as the leak occurs or the sensor
is held down with failure. If one of these two conditions ceases,
the unit will return to the operating mode it had before the leak
(ON, OFF, COOLING, HEATING, VENT, etc.) and the warning
of protection mode will disappear.
A2L PROTECTION MODE
In any case, alarms will be maintained until they are reset
from the graphic terminal (manual reset).
The alarms related to the leak detector are:
• AL86: A2L sensor failure.
• AL87: Refrigerant leakage, within the defi ned hysteresis
cycle.
• AL88: Critical alarm, refrigerant leakage and failure of the
indoor fan (communication, sensor, etc).
Important: It is also necessary to check that all parameters
corresponding to the WO of the unit are loaded.

Step 5: Charge of refrigerant R-454B

● Charge the unit with the new refrigerant R-454B using tools
qualifi ed for A2L refrigerants according to EN 378 or ISO 817.
An A2L refrigerant detector must also be used, independent
of that installed on the machine.
Check that there are no hazardous or combustible objects
nearby and make sure that in case of fi re the extinguisher
is nearby. The fi re extinguisher must be appropriate to the
system and the refrigerant type.
Add the refrigerant via the charging valve of each circuit,
located in the liquid line, using the appropriate equipment
and tools for A2L refrigerants, monitoring the pressures to
control any anomaly. Never exceed the specifi ed maximum
operating pressures.
