Replacing the Starter Rope
and Rewind Spring
Removing the starter

Remove screws (1)

Lift the fan housing off of the
N
crankcase and pull it away to the
side
Removing the rope rotor
Version with ElastoStart

Remove the spring clip (1)
N
Carefully remove the rope rotor
N
with washer (2) and pawl (3)
The rewind spring can jump out –
risk of injury!
MS 201, MS 201 C

Remove the spring clip (1)

Carefully remove the carrier with
N
washer (2) and pawls (3) from the
rope rotor

Carefully pull off the rope rotor (4)
N
The rewind spring can jump out –
risk of injury!
Replacing a torn starter rope
Version with ElastoStart
Pry the cap out of the starter grip
N
Remove remaining rope from the
N
rotor and starter grip
Thread the new starter rope through
N
the starter handle and secure it by
making a simple overhand knot
Pull the knot into the starter grip
N
Refit the cap in the grip
N
