Replacing the Starter Rope
and Rewind Spring
Removing the fan housing

N Remove screws (1)
N
Push hand guard upward
Replace torn starter cord

N Carefully press the spring clip (2) off
of the axle with a screw driver or
suitable pliers
N Carefully remove the rope rotor with
washer (3) and pawl (4)
The rewind spring can jump out –
risk of injury!

N Lever the rope out of the starter
handle with a screwdriver
N
Remove the remainder of the rope
from the rotor and starter handle
N Thread a new ElastoStart starter
rope from top to bottom through the

handle and rope guide bush (5)
N Thread the rope through the rotor
and secure it in the rotor with a
simple overhand knot
N Coat the bearing bore in the rope
rotor with non-resionous oil – slip
the rope rotor onto the starter post –
turn it back and forth a little until the
anchor loop of the rewind spring
engages

N Refit the pawl (4) in the rope rotor
N Place the washer (3) on the starter
post
N Press the spring clip (2) on to the
starter post and over the pegs of the
pawl with a screwdriver or suitable
pliers – the spring clip must point in
the clockwise direction – as in the
picture
