Replacing the Starter Rope
and Rewind Spring
Removing the fan housing
Remove the shroud – see "Shroud".

Take out the screws (1).

Push the hand guard upwards.

Pull the underside of the fan
N
housing away from the crankcase
and remove it downwards.
Removing the Rope Rotor

If suitable circlip pliers are not available,
have the starter rope or rewind spring
replaced by your servicing dealer.

Use circlip pliers to carefully remove

the circlip (1).
Remove the washer (2), carrier (3)

and spring housing (4).
All versions with one pawl

Use a screwdriver or suitable pliers

to remove the spring clip (1) from
the starter post.
Carefully remove the rope rotor with
N
washer (2) and pawl (3).
WARNING
The rewind spring may pop out and
uncoil during this operation – take care
to avoid the risk of injury.

Replacing a Broken Starter Rope

Use a screwdriver or suitable pliers
to remove the spring clip (1) from
the starter post.
Carefully remove the rope rotor with
washer (2) and pawls (3).
WARNING
Remove the remaining rope from
the rotor and starter grip.
Thread the new rope through the
starter grip and tie one of the knots
shown.
Pull the knot back into the grip.
