Application instructions
Size determination (only by a trained special-
ist)
• The orthosis is selected and fitted by a spe-
cialist after measuring the patient. You can
refer to the size chart on the packaging for
the correct size depending on the measured
values.
• To determine the right size, you will need to
measure the pelvic circumference.
• You can determine the size of the thigh
support based on the thigh circumference
measured at the middle of the thigh. It is also
necessary to indicate the affected side (left
or right leg).
• To select the joint splint (short / long), you will
need the patient's height.
s = short < 1.70 m height
l = long > 1.70 m height
In specific cases, it is possible that a "long"
joint splint will fit better than a measured
size of "short" or the other way round.
Adjustment of CoxaTrain (only by a trained
specialist)
• First insert the hip cup with hinge
according to the affected side into the welded
pocket provided on the pelvic support for
this purpose.
The Bauerfeind logo "B" on
B
the hip cup should be facing outwards (away
from the body)
.
1
• Fasten the blue gluteal pad
(which is
C
fastened on the right side by default) to the
Velcro tab provided on the affected side (inner
side of the pelvic support)
.
2
• Then fasten the oval trochanter cushion
horizontally onto the triangular Velcro
D
patches on the inner side of the hinge.
For targeted pressure relief of the greater tro-
chanter, the second, perforated oval cushion
can be fastened at this point as an alterna-
E
tive
.
3
• After this, fasten the trochanter pad
(
kidney-shaped, gray, white back) onto
F
the joint splint above the trochanter cushion,
keeping the hinge bent at a 90° angle
the second trochanter pad included with
delivery (
gray, kidney-shaped, black back)
G
can be fastened below the pad
to generate an enhanced massage effect or to
improve the action of the pad.
• Now put the pelvic support with the as-
sembled hinge on the patient. Make sure that
the upper edge of the pelvic support is level
with the upper edge of the iliac crest
• In case the hinge sticks out, you can reshape
this to follow the anatomical progression of
the thigh in the adjustable area of the splint
using your hands or the edge of the table
6
up to 3×
.
7
• To complete the product, first take off the
support.
• Then pull the fabric hinge protection
the lower end of the hinge
using scissors if needed.
• After this, insert the lower end of the hinge
into the opening of the thigh knit
locking button pressed, then lock it in one of
the six available positions (depending on the
length of the leg)
TIP: Mark the number so the patient can find
the right locking point after disassembly and
reassembly during cleaning.
• Position the sacroiliac joint pads
(SI joint pads) vertically along the Velcro tabs
so that the cut-out (hole) is situated at the
posterior superior iliac spine (SIPS).
• Depending on the indication / specification of
the physician, the optionally available limiting
pins
can be used to restrict bending and
K
stretching in the hip joint (60°, 75°, 90°)
• To do so, position the limiting pin(s) in the cor-
aligned
responding holes (60°, 75°, 90°)
A
• Then snap the covering cap
hinge
.
12
• Check the fit of the shaped orthosis on the
patient and have the patient practice putting
on and taking off the orthopedic aid in front
of a mirror.
• If the SI joint pads
pelvic support, you can unfasten them.
TIP: Make sure that the Velcro tabs do not touch
the knitted fabric. This prevents damage to the
material of the CoxaTrain.
Putting on the CoxaTrain (patient)
• Position the orthosis on the pelvis so that
the upper edge of the knit fabric reaches no
higher than the upper edge of the iliac crest
with the hip cup and joint splint
centrally on the side of the thigh
• Then slide your fingers into the finger pockets
provided on the fastening and steadily pull
the fastening forward
• Then press the left half of the fastening
against the abdomen and position the right
half of the fastening on top of the left half so
that it can be fastened to it. When fastening
