Calibration
Switching on/off
The calibrator can be switched on by briefly pressing the button
and, immediately
after starting up, begins injecting charge pulses of 1 nC into the connected test circuit at
the frequency last set. The display shows the set pulse level.
If the remaining capacity of the calibrator battery is low (<20%), it is indicated by the
BAT symbol at the bottom right edge of the screen.
In that case it is advisable to replace the old battery with a new 9-volt block battery as
soon as possible. The battery compartment cover is located on the back of the
calibrator. As soon as the remaining capacity is insufficient for calibrator operation, the
display shows only the BAT symbol.
To switch the calibrator off after calibration, the button
has to be pressed and held
until the display goes blank.
The calibrator also switches off automatically to save the batteries if no button is
pressed for 10 minutes.
As a basic principle, the pulse amplitude should be set as close as possible to the
Setting the pulse level
amplitude of the expected PD pulses. IEC 60270 recommends a pulse level of between
50 and 200% of the expected level.
The pulse level can be set to between 100 pC and 100 nC by means of the buttons
and
. After the pulse level has been changed, the calibrator takes a few seconds (30
at most) to adjust to the new amplitude.
