3M™ POWERED AIR TURBO PF-602E-ASB
= Particular attention should be given to warning statements where indicated.
WARNING
Proper selection, training, use and appropriate maintenance are essential in order for the product to help protect the
wearer from certain airborne contaminants.
Failure to follow all instructions on the use of these respiratory protection products and/or failure to properly wear the
complete product during all periods of exposure may adversely affect the wearer's health, lead to severe or life-threaten-
ing illness or permanent disability.
For suitability and proper use follow local regulations and refer to all information supplied. You can contact a safety pro-
fessional or 3M™ on 0870 60 800 60 (UK) or 1800 320 500 (Ireland).
SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
The 3M™ PF-602E-ASB Powered Air Turbo is designed to be used in conjunction with one of the approved headtops or
full facepieces (see Fig 1). This product meets the requirements of EN12941:1998 +A2:2008 (Respiratory protective de-
vices – Powered filtering devices incorporating a helmet or a hood) and EN12942:1998 +A2:2008 (Respiratory protective
devices – Powered assisted filtering devices incorporating fullface mask, half mask or quarter masks).
The Powered Air Turbo has an integrated battery and can be used with a range of combined particulate, gas and vapour
filters or particulate only filters (see Fig 1). The connection thread of the filters and the breathing hose of the Powered Air
Turbo conforms to the standard EN 148-1:1999.
The Powered Air Turbo displays the battery status (A) and the motor status (P), where A represents the battery charge
and P represents how hard the motor is working. As the filter loads with particulate, the motor works harder.
If an alarm sounds or an error (E code) is displayed, the user must immediately leave the hazardous area and
investigate the cause.
WARNINGS AND LIMITATIONS
Use this respirator system strictly in accordance with all instructions:
•
contained in this booklet,
•
accompanying other components of the system. (e.g., Filter User Instructions, Headtop User Instructions or
Facepiece User Instructions)
Do not use in concentrations of contaminant above those specified in the Technical Specifications section of this User
Instruction.
Do not use for respiratory protection against unknown atmospheric contaminants or when concentrations of contaminants
are unknown or immediately dangerous to life or health (IDLH).
Do not use in atmospheres containing less than 19.5% oxygen. (3M™ definition. Individual countries may apply their own
limits on oxygen deficiency. Seek advice if in doubt).
Do not use these products in pure oxygen or oxygen-enriched atmospheres.
Do not use these products in flammable or explosive atmospheres.
Recommended operating temperature range is -10⁰C to +30⁰C, relative humidity (RH) under 75%.
The PF-602E-ASB can be affected by atmospheric air density. Therefore, atmospheric conditions such as air temperature
and air pressure can increase or decrease the volumetric airflow provided by the Powered Air Turbo. The user must con-
duct an airflow check before each use to confirm that the airflow rate exceeds the Manufacturer's Minimum Design Flow
(MMDF). See "Airflow Check" below.
A1 gas classification applies to all DT-Series combination gas and vapour with particulate filters when used with PF-602E-
ASB Powered Air Turbo.
Hg (mercury) filters are only approved on systems approved to TM3 classification of EN 12942:1998+A2:2008.
If a powered air system is identified as being adequate for the atmospheric contaminants present, it is important to note
that gas filters do not provide protection against particulate hazards and particle filters do not provide protection against
gases or vapours. If both particulate and gas or vapour hazards are present, then appropriate combination gas and
vapour with particulate filters must be used.
Normal filtering devices do not protect against certain gases such as CO (carbon monoxide), CO
(nitrogen).
Only use with approved Headtops, Facepieces, Spares and Accessories and within the usage conditions given in the
Technical Specification.
Use with full facepieces: Do not use with beards, other facial hair or clothing that may inhibit contact between the face and
