II.6.4
Inspection-w ashing of the shell and tube
heat exchangers
DANGER !
The acids used to wash the h eat exch angers ar e
toxic. Use su itable I.P.D.
The shell and tube exc hangers are not subject to fouling in nominal
running conditions.
The wor king temperatures of the unit, the s peed of the water in the
pipes and the s uitable fi nish of the heat exc hanging surface reduce
fouling of the exc hangers to a mini mum.
Any deposit on the heat exchangers can be detected by meas uring the
pressure drop between the unit input and output pipe, using a
differential manometer. Any sludge that may for m in the water circuit or
any silt that cannot be trapped by the filter, as well as extremel y hard
water conditions or high concentrations of any antifreeze s olution used,
may cl og the exchangers and undermine their heat exchanging
efficienc y. In this c ase, it is necess ary to wash the heat exchanger with
suitabl e chemic al detergents . Provi de already existing s ystems with
adequate charge and disc harge connections .
Use a tank c ontaining weak acid: 5% phos phoric acid, or if the
exc hangers have to be cleaned often: 5% oxalic acid. T he liquid
detergent must circulate around the exchanger at a fl ow rate at least 1.5
times higher than the rated worki ng flow rate.
The first detergent c ycle cleans up the worst of the dirt. After the first
cycle, carry out another c ycl e with clean detergent to complete the
operation. Before starting up the s ystem again, rinse abundantl y with
water to get rid of any trac es of acid and bleed any air from the s ystem;
if nec essar y start up the s ervice pump.

II.6.5
Restoring compressor oil level, oil change
IMPORTANT !
Do not load lubricants different to those
recomm ended. The lubricant is h ighly h yg roscopic
and for this reason mu st not come into contact with
the air.
The exact amount of lubricant oil is stated on the c ompressor s erial
number plate. To top-up/replac e, onl y use oil accor ding to s pecification
supplied by the manufactur er and stated on the c ompress or serial
number plate. The lubricant is the POE type (Pol y-O-Ester).
Below find the type of oil compatibl e with the us e of R134a gas :

Protecting the Unit from Frost
II.6.6.1
Indications for unit not running
IMPORTANT !
If the unit is not used during the winter period, the
water contained in the system may freez e.
A time must be envisioned for the emptying of the entire c ontent of the
circuit using a draining point s et-up at a l ower level of the water heat
exc hanger in a way to ensur e drai ning of the water from the unit.
Moreover, use the coc ks positioned in the lower part of the heat
exc hangers until they are completel y emptied.
If the dr aining operati on is felt to be too much trouble, ethyl ene glycol
may be mi xed with the water in suitabl e proportions in order to
guarantee protec tion from freezing.
The u nits are availabl e with an anti-freeze resistance (RA access ory) to
preser ve the integrity of the evaporator, whenever the temperature
shoul d drop exc essi vel y.
IMPORTANT !
The unit must not be isolated from the electric
power supply during the entire seasonal standstill
period
II.6.6.2
Indications for unit running

In this case, it is the micropr ocessor c ontrol board that prevents
freezing of the evaporator. When the s et is reached, the anti-freeze
alarm inter venes that stops the machine, while the pump will continue to
functi on regularl y.
The us e of ethylene gl ycol is rec ommended if you do not wish to drain
the water from the hydraulic s ystem during the winter stoppage, or if the
unit has to s uppl y c hilled water at temperatures l ower than 4°C (the las t
case not c onsi dered is inherent the s ys tem di mensioni ng of the unit).
IMPORTANT !
Mixing the wat er with glycol modifies the
performance of the unit.
