8. GENERAL NOTES ON MAINTENANCE, CLEANING,
STORAGE AND TRANSPORTATION
MAINTENANCE
To ensure and maintain a good level of safety and functionality of the bike, it must be regularly
checked and periodically serviced.
Some checks and servicing tasks can be carried out directly by the user or anyone who has basic
mechanical skills, ability and access to the right tools.
Other operations require the expertise and specific tools of a qualified operator. The dealer will be
able to provide all the information about the checks which can be carried out directly by the user
and suggest which routine maintenance tasks should be periodically carried out based on how
frequently the bike is used and the conditions of its use.
Every maintenance operation shall be carried out with the battery removed and taking care to rest
the bike on a workshop stand or on a suitable support structure. The different parts that make
up the bike are subject to various types of wear from use. In particular, the following components
should be regularly checked and serviced: tyres, wheels, brakes, gears, chain, seat post,
suspension and frame.
The tread of the tyres installed on the bike is liable to be consumed which can be accentuated
by how and where it is used. The rubber of the tyres also tends to harden over time. The correct
pressure of the inner tube in the tyres should be constantly checked to reduce the risk of
punctures, limit deterioration and ensure safer use and performance of the bike. Periodically
inspect the state of wear and ageing/deterioration of the tyres and replace the tyres, if necessary,
with ones that have the same characteristics.
The correct state of maintenance of the wheels, subject to wear from use, requires that it is
periodically checked that all the components are correctly installed and adjusted and also cleaned
with delicate detergents or specific products for bicycle cleaning. Regularly check that the wheels
are correctly centred and that the spokes are tensioned evenly and appropriately according to the
rim type; the hub bearings must be inspected, cleaned and lubricated or replaced if necessary.
The integrity of the rims supplied with the bike must be constantly checked to make sure that
they are not deformed, cracked or dented and/or show any other signs of corrosion and damage
that require them to be replaced for safety reasons. The quick-release devices must be intact,
constantly cleaned and properly tightened; the hub bearings must be inspected, cleaned and
lubricated or replaced if necessary.
To ensure the maintenance of a good level of operation of the brakes, in addition to regularly
checking the state of wear and integrity of the discs and callipers, periodically replace the brake
pads installed on the relative callipers to reach a thickness of not less than 1mm. If there is a
decrease in braking efficiency, it will be necessary to purge or replace the mineral oil present in
the hydraulic system circuit.
The correct functioning of the electrically power assisted cycle transmission is guaranteed by
adequate maintenance and adjustment of the relevant components.
The gear-shifting system cable system supplied with the product, which undergoes constant
stress during use and operation as a result of mechanical efforts, may easily loose its adjustment.
The maintenance and/or the recovery of the correct operating conditions of the indexed gear
change system are guaranteed by adjusting the derailleur (stop screws) and adjusting the gear
change cable.
The chain and the relevant drive gears are subject to wear due to use and must be regularly
cleaned and lubricated with specific products (drip or spray, dry or wet) adapted to the season and
methods of use of the product and periodically replaced in order to guarantee their integrity and
ensure they run smoothly and quietly. Lubricate the parts in question only after they have been
