9 Maintenance
Have maintenance and repair work carried out by
qualified personnel only!
WARNING! Risk of infection!
Wear appropriate safety clothing (gloves) to
prevent the risk of infection while performing
maintenance work.
DANGER! Risk of fatal injury!
Take appropriate steps to prevent all danger
posed by electrical currents.
• Before all maintenance and repair work, discon-
nect the pump from the power supply, and make
sure it cannot be switched back on by unauthor-
ised persons.
• Any damage to the connection cable should be
repaired only by a qualified electrician. For
safety reasons, carry out maintenance work
only in the presence of a second person.
• Before performing any work:
1. Disconnect the pump from the mains.
2. Check the rubber hose for mechanical and
chemical damage.
DANGER! Risk of injury!
When using a chain to lift the pump, please
observe the relevant accident prevention regu-
lations (e.g. 18.4 Maschinenbau- und Metall-
Berufsgenossenschaft: professional association
for the mechanical engineering and metalwork-
ing industry). Chains should be checked regu-
larly by an expert.
To maintain proper functioning, the first oil
change should be performed after 300 operating
hours, followed by an oil change every 5000 oper-
ating hours thereafter. For low operating hours,
the first oil change should be performed after six
months at the latest, and all subsequent oil
changes should be performed at least once a year.
If you notice a decrease in pump output, increase
in operating noise, or diminishing of cutting power
(tendency for the pump to become blocked),
check the macerator and impeller for wear and
adjust as necessary or contact our after-sales
service department for replacements.
9.1 Checking the oil chamber
The opening for filling and draining the oil cham-
ber is sealed externally by a sealing plug (SW 13)
("oil" is written on the housing). To check the
mechanical seal, drain the oil from the oil chamber,
including all residual amounts (for pumps posi-
tioned at an angle), into a clean measuring con-
tainer. If visual inspection reveals that the oil
contains water (appears milky), the oil should be
changed (see oil change) and checked again after
5000 operating hours or max. 1 year. If, however,
the oil contains water and contaminants, the
mechanical seal must be replaced. The electrode
of our seal monitoring device can be installed
(or retrofitted) instead of the sealing plug/marked
housing to enable monitoring of the oil chamber.

9.2 Oil change
WARNING! Risk of injury!
The pumps are heavy and can tip over.
People may be injured if the pump tips over.
Always check that the pump is positioned safely.
WARNING! Risk of injury!
An overpressure may exist in the sealing cham-
ber/separation chamber. If the oil drain plug is
undone, hot oil may spurt out under pressure,
causing injury and scalding. Before removing the
plug, put on protective goggles and undo the oil
drain plug with care.
WARNING! Danger to the environment!
Oil may leak out if the pump is damaged or dis-
mantled. This can cause damage to the environ-
ment. Avoid damage, or adopt suitable
measures to take up the oil.
NOTE: When you change the oil, the old oil must
be disposed of as hazardous waste. The oil is not
biodegradable.
When changing the oil in the oil chamber, use
mineral oil with a viscosity class of 22 to 46, for
example Spinesso or Nuto from ESSO. See the
spare parts list for information on the filling
amount.
CAUTION! Danger of damage!
The oil chamber must be filled with the correct
amount of oil. Overfilling the chamber will
destroy the pump.
9.3 Checking the macerator system
Using a suitable tool such as a feeler gauge, you
can measure the cutting gap between the cutting
rotor and cutting plate. If the cutting gap has
become larger than 0.2 mm due to wear, it can be
corrected by removing intermediate plates.
