7.1
Fusing and motor protection
The example for connections (see Appendix) shows the standard circuit
for a clockwise rotating field and a counterclockwise direction of rotation!
7.2
Perform a test run
In order to test the motor or the motor-pump-combination after the electrical connection
has been made, observe the following condition.
Operate the motor or the motor-pump-combination underwater only
Safely fasten the motor.
Mount a discharge on the outlet side to be able to safely drain the escaping liquid.
On the inlet side make sure that no personnel can have access and that the pump
inlet is fully submerged in the pumped fluid.
Safely fix all hoses and pipes.
If pump/motor are tested
Make sure that personnel cannot have contact to the rotor shaft gearing
8
Motor operation
Provide for sufficient cooling of the motor.
Damage to motor or motor cable due to overheating!
If the motor is not cooled sufficiently, there will be the risk of damages
to the motor and motor cable by overheating.
Provide for a sufficiently high flow rate of coolant along the
motor.
Make sure that the motor short lead is always submerged in
the pumped fluid.
If the required minimum coolant flow rate cannot be reached (e.g. when the inlet opening
of the well is above the motor or in case of wells with large diameter).
Install cooling sleeve.
Make sure that the cooling sleeve encloses the complete motor and the water inlet
opening of the pump.
Motor is cooled by water flow

Operation with variable frequency drives (VFD)
Note: When operating a Coverco OF 3 phase submersible 4" motor
with a frequency converter, please strictly observe the VFD manu-
facturer's operating instructions!
Make sure that the motor current in all operating levels of the
Ö
regulating range does not exceed the nominal motor current
indicated on the type plate.
Adjust the frequency converter so that the limit values for the
Ö
nominal motor frequency of min. 30 Hz and max. the value of
the nominal motor frequency (50 or 60 Hz).
Limit any voltage peaks on the motor when using a frequency
Ö
converter to the following values:
• max. voltage rises 500 V/µs, max. voltage peak 1000V.
• Make sure that the running up time from 0 to 30 Hz and the
deceleration time from 30 to 0 Hz is maximum one second.
Dimension the cable such that power loss due to additional
Ö
filters is taken into consideration.
Make sure that the required coolant flow speed along the
Ö
motor is also observed with frequency converter operation.
*Franklin Electric 4" single-phase motors are not recommanded for
operation with VFD. Please contact Coverco.
9
Maintenance and Service
The motor is maintenance free and requires no maintenance or service activities.

Determining motor production date
The production date of your submersible motor is marked above the motor name plate.
10.1 Name plate data
The name plate is realised by laser on the outside of the motor with the following details:

Disposal
Dispose of the motor in compliance with the statutory regulations.
Damage to environment due to wrong disposal!
Packaging materials are valuable raw materials and, in many cases,
they can be reused or processed and recycled.
Electronic scrap, electronic components, lubricants and other
auxiliary materials are subject to hazardous waste treatment
and may only be disposed of by authorised specialist
companies.
The motor or parts of the motor may not be disposed of in the
household waste.
The local municipal authority or disposal specialist companies provide
information on environmentally compatible disposal!
