WARNING: We have not shown all possible misuses.
Ropeman 4 is in accordance with the European standard EN 567:2013 and EN
12841:2006 type B. This device is designed to be used in climbing, mountaineering and
related activities as a rope clamp compliant with EN 567 and/or in rope access systems
as a type B rope adjustment device (working line ascender) compliant with EN 12841; it is
intended to prevent the risk of falling during the normal activities and it is not in any case
suitable to be used use in a fall arrest system.
EN 567
Rope clamp for ascending rope, for climbing and mountaineering purposes, for use in
normal climatic conditions.
Compatibility for EN 567 (climbing, mountaineering, caving)

Accessory Cords EN 564, Ø 8
Slings EN 566 (Attention! Exceptional application, not covered by EN 567 Standard, not
to be used for the protection against falls from height).
EN 12841
Type B rope adjustment device to be used on rope access systems, for use in normal
climatic conditions.
The primary function of devices type B rope adjustment devices is the progression up the
working line; for this reason, it is essential that they are always used together with a type
A rope adjustment device connected to an independent safety line.
When an adjustable anchor line is loaded with the entire weight of the user, it becomes a
working line: to ensure the optimal safety of the user it is therefore necessary that a safety
line is used as well. Avoid any overloading or dynamic loading on the device because
can harm the anchor line. Never exceed the maximum rated load (120kg), which is the
maximum mass in kilograms of personnel, including tools and equipment, to be used with
the rope adjustment device.
Compatibility for EN 12841 (rope access)
Low stretch Ropes EN 1891 type A Ø 10-13 mm
Carabiners EN 362
Full-body harnesses EN 361 and sit harnesses EN 813

(G) Pin
B2 ROPEMAN 4 INSTALLATION
B2.1 Open the mobile side plate (B) by rotating it. When correctly positioned, the clamping
cam (D) rotates with the mobile side plate.
B2.2 Insert the rope between the cylinder (C) and the clamping cam (D);
B2.3 Close mobile side plate (B) and lock it on the cylinder (C);
B2.4 Insert the locking carabiner into locking carabiner hole (E);
B2.5 Before use, verify that the rope slides towards the desired direction and locks in the
opposite one.
B3 UNBLOCKING
Pull the wire (F) of the clamping cam (D) after unloading.
B4 ADJUSTING
EN 567
B4.1 To step away from the anchor point, unblock the device by unloading it and pulling
the wire (F) of the clamping cam (D).
B4.2 Step away carefully from the anchor, in a controlled manner.
B4.3 To get closer to anchor point, unload the device from your weight. Grab rope bet-
ween the device and the harness and pull it upward.
EN 12841
B4.4 Connect a adjustment devices type A the safety line first.
Connect the Ropeman 4 to the working line, to progress.
B5 LIFTING
This device can be used to lift loads (Working Load limit 120 Kg).
When used for lifting, the rope/tape must always run on the cylinder.
Before use, verify that Ropeman 4 can freely rotate inside the carabiner.
C SAFETY INSTRUCTION
Before use, carefully check each product part. Diagram C
WARNING
Ensure that all devices in the system are in perfect operating conditions, that they're appro-
priate for the intended use and that all the elements of the system are compatible with each
other. Be aware of dangerous situations that may arise when the safe functioning of one ele-
ment of the equipment is affected and/or interferes with the safe functioning of another one.
If there is the least doubt about the safety of the product, it is to be replaced immediately.
A product which has been subject to a fall impact force is not to be used again.
Any change to this product can reduce safety significantly.
Any alteration, tampering or repairs immediately voids the guarantee and it is forbidden, as
it can compromise the safety of the device itself.
Direction of load must be in line with the spine of the carabiner. Make sure that both sides-
plates are loaded equally (B8).
Do not insert slings, cords or ropes in the locking carabiner hole.
This product may not function on iced or muddy ropes.
This device is not suitable to be used on wire cables.
Do not use with two ropes.
EN 567
WARNING
To be used only with webbings having with between 10 and 16 mm (B6).
Do not use it with a single webbing, as a single safety line (B6.3).
While using a tape sling or webbing, never connect the equipment to one side of the
loop only (B6.4).
EN 12841
WARNING
It is important to become familiar with rescue operations and how they are carried out
safely and correctly. Make sure to have a rescue procedure to deal with any emergency
that may occur during work or climbing. The anchor point for the system should preferably
be located above the user's position (B7.1) and must be compliant with the requirements
of the EN 795 standard (minimum strength of 12 kN). The working line must not deviate from
the vertical; if it does, take adequate precautions to prevent dangerous pendulum effects.
Verify the free space required beneath the user at the workplace before each occasion of
use, so that, in case of a fall, there will be no collision with the ground or the other obstacle
in the fall path. A full body harness is the only acceptable body holding device that can
be used in a fall arrest system. When used in rope access systems, the device shall be
connected only to ventral attachments of harnesses complying with EN 813.
Do not allow slack in the rope between the rope adjustment device and the anchor, in
order to reduce the risk of a fall. When your body weight is on the work rope, make sure
that the safety rope is not loaded (B7.2).
D LIFESPAN
The lifespan of the product is dependent on a number of factors, such as the manner and
frequency of use, UV exposure, moisture, ice, effects of weather, storage conditions, and
dirt (sand, salt, etc.). Under extreme conditions the lifespan can be reduced to a single
usageor even less, if the equipment has suffered damage (for example during transport)
before ever being used. Please note: Products manufactured from synthetic fibres are
subject to ageing even when not used. This ageing depends mainly on environmental
conditions as well as the impact of UV light.
The potential lifespan of metal products is unlimited, since the effective lifespan depends
on the previously mentioned factors. WILD COUNTRY recommends replacing these pro-
ducts after maximum ten years.
E CLEANING, STORAGE, TRANSPORT AND SERVICING
See diagram E for guidelines on correct storage and care.
Do not allow this product to come into contact with aggressive chemicals (e. g. battery
acid, solvents) or expose it to extreme temperatures as these events can have a negative
impact on the mechanical features of the materials. Ensure that the product is kept safe
during storage and transport and is protected from damage. If necessary (eg. contact with
dirt or saltwater), wash the product in lukewarm water and rinse with clear water (max.
30°). Use a Teflon, silicone or a wax-based lubricant. Avoid oil based lubricants as they
collect dirt faster. Make sure that the product does not come into contact with chemicals.
Leave to dry at room temperature. Disinfect the material only with substances which have
no impact on the synthetic material used.
