Use
2. Setting the distance between ADF and face:
Two LOCK buttons (Fig. C-13) determine the position of
the support ring.
a. In each case, press the LOCK button and push the
support ring. Release the LOCK button.
b. Ensure that the support ring is equally far in the mount
on both sides (see magnified view on the right in
Fig. E). Otherwise, darkening can appear uneven
during welding.
3. Adjusting the support ring (Fig. C-15) if necessary:
a. If the support ring is seated too high or too low on the
head, then set the belts that go over the head. To do
so, press the locking pin from the belt and loosen the
end of the belt. Push both parts of the belt and insert
the locking pin through the nearest hole.
b. Set the support ring using the adjusting wheel (Fig. C-
17) on the head circumference.
c. Check that the support ring is seated correctly. Put on
the welding visor, then raise and lower it a few times. If
the support ring moves as a result, adjust it once more.
4.3
Preparations before every use
4.3.1 General information about the ADF
Darkening stages (SHADE)
The following areas are preset:
– Grinding mode: Darkening stage 4 (cannot be changed)
– Cutting mode: Darkening stages 5 to 8
– Welding mode: Darkening stages 9 to 13
Light sensitivity (SENSITIVITY)
When in cutting mode and welding mode, light sensitivity can
be set between LO and HI (X-plore 8000 Standard welding
visor), or 0 and 10 (X-plore 8000 Premium welding visor). If
light sensitivity is set to a low value, then the ADF only reacts
at higher light intensity.
A medium setting is generally a sensible choice. Dräger
recommends setting light sensitivity within the area in which
welding is taking place. To do so, set light sensitivity to HI or
10 and then reduce it incrementally until the ADF only reacts
to the welding arc. This prevents other intense light sources
(e.g. direct sunlight, intense artificial light, arcs from adjacent
welding work) affecting the behavior of the ADF.
Delay time (DELAY)
The delay time can be set between S/0 (0.1 s) and L/10 (1 s)
in both cutting mode and welding mode. After the welding
process, the ADF automatically switches from dark to light
with the set delay. The delay time prevents the ADF from
turning light even though the workpiece is still glowing.
A setting between 0.5 and 1 s is usually expedient. Dräger
recommends a shorter delay time for spot welding
applications and a longer delay time for applications with
higher currents, in WIG welding with low currents and
WIG/MIG/MAG pulse welding.

See Figures A and B on the fold-out page
1. Checking functional integrity:
a. If the LED (Fig. B-9) on the ADF is flashing red,
replace the batteries.
b. Press the TEST button (Fig. B-10) on the ADF. The
liquid crystal screen (Fig. B-1) must become dark.
Upon releasing the button, the liquid crystal screen
becomes light once more.
If the liquid crystal screen is not dark, replace the
batteries and repeat the test.
2. Setting the darkening stage:
a. Determine the appropriate darkening stage (see
"Annex", page 23).
b. Set the selector switch (Fig. B-11) to the correct area.
c. Set the control dial (Fig. B-7) to the correct darkening
stage.
3. Setting light sensitivity:
a. Move the light sensitivity control dial (Fig. B-6) to the
HI position (maximum light sensitivity).
b. Slowly turn the control dial anti-clockwise until the ADF
only reacts to the welding arc.
4. Set the delay time.
Set the control dial for the delay time (Fig. B-5)
accordingly (Position L: 1.0 s, position S: 0.1 s).
5. Insert the hose (R59620 or R59600) into the hose
connection (Fig. A-13).
6. Connect the welding visor to the breathing air supply with
the hose.
7. Turn on the breathing air supply. Ensure that there is
breathable air in the welding visor.
8. Put on the welding visor. Set the support ring using the
adjusting wheel (Fig. A-12) based on the size of your
head.
9. Checking that the welding visor is seated correctly:
– The face cuff is all around the head.
– The welding visor is firmly in position on the head.
10. Tighten the drawstring (Fig. A-2).

See Figures C and D on the fold-out page
1. Press one of the buttons to set the ADF. The display is
turned on.
When a button is pressed, the display is turned on and
the current setting is displayed.
The display automatically switches to standby mode after
15 seconds.
2. Checking battery charge status: If the symbol
displayed, change the batteries. The battery status
indicator can be updated by briefly pressing the
ON/MODE button (Fig. D-8).
3. Determine the appropriate darkening stage (see "Annex",
page 23).
4. To set the mode, select WELD, CUT or GRIND using the
ON/MODE button.
