7.2.3 Adjusting the backlash
- Slide the starting motor (10/12) mounted in the vees or in the
flange in the direction of the ring gear (10/9) until pinion and ring
gear are completely in alignment.

- Tighten two of the four tommy screws (10/7) on the clamping
table (10/8).
- Move ring gear (10/3) in the direction of the pinion using the
handwheel so that there is a backlash of approx. 0.5 mm.
- Lock the height adjustment of the ring gear with tommy screws
(10/11).

7.2.4 Adjusting the pinion-to-ring gear clearance
- Loosen again the two previously tightened tommy screws (10/7)
on the clamping table (10/8).
- Slide back the starting motor (10/12) with the clamping table
(10/8) until there is a clearance of A = 2.5 - 4 mm between
pinion and ring gear.

- Tighten clamping device (10/8) with the 4 tommy screws (10/7).
i Raise tommy grips until disengagement, turn back and allow
to engage.
- Fold protective cover (10/14) over pinion and ring gear.
7.2.5 Adjusting the rotational speed sensor
- Align the axis of the sensor to the pinion of the centre of the
armature.
- In the case of overhung-mounted and sliding-armature starting
motors, the tip of the driver (rubber cone) should be locked at
the distance corresponding to the end of pinion travel.
