6.3 Testing Generators

Operators must wear ear protectors during
testing.
! Never run AC generators over 100 rpm without the battery
being connected.
Otherwise the generator could be damaged!
6.3.1 Polarisation of DC generators
- Allow generator to run briefly as a motor (polarisation). To do
this, disconnect the connection to the drive motor of the
combination test bench, and connect the battery + pole directly
to the D+/61 terminal of the generator. The generator must run
in the direction of rotation indicated.
The generator voltage must be reached with the generator cold at
the rated voltage speed without load.
The adjust load corresponds to 2/3 of the maximum current value.
When the load current has been set and reached, read off the
rotational speed and compare it with the test specifications.

6.3.2 Test procedure

- Close protective cover.
- Actuate MOTOR push-button switch (35).
Indicator lamp (35) lights up.
- Select direction of rotation by means of the left/right push-
button (33).
LED lights up.
- Select the voltage measuring range with the push-button 7, 14
or 28 (26) in accordance with the fixed generator (7, 14 or 28 V).
LED lights up.
- Actuate INT push-button (26).
LED lights up.
Voltmeter (43) indicates the battery voltage of the test bench.
- Actuate EXT push-button (26).
LED lights up.
Voltmeter indicates the voltage applied from an external source
via the sockets V+ / V- (24).
- Adjust current measuring range with push-button 60 / 120 (30).
LED lights up.
Ammeter (41) set to current range 60 A.
LED off.
Ammeter (41) set to current range 120 A.
- Set test speed with push button 6000 / 12000 (30).
LED lights up.
Rotational speed sensor (44) set to test speed 6000 rpm (for
direct drive).
LED off.
Rotational speed sensor (44) set to test speed 12000 rpm (for
belt drive).
28
- Switch on the back-up resistor by pressing the
(26).
LED off.
i For testing AC generators only!
- Make battery connection by pressing the key AKKU MINUS (29).
LED lights up!
Indicator lamp (28) lights up.
- Carry out test with speed control (load test) or
- with fixed speed (extended running test).
Test with speed control (load test)
- Select speed control with the RPM key (33).
LED lights up.
- Set speed control (32) to the >0< position.
- Press RUN key (33).
LED lights up.
i The drive motor will not start if the speed control (32) is not
in the >0< position.
An optical and acoustic warning are given.
- Bring to test speed by means of the speed control (32).
Adjustment by means of speed indicator (40).
- Continue with the test stage "Switch on load resistance (31)".
Test with fixed speed (extended run test)
- Select fixed speed with key 1500 or 3000 (33).
Appropriate LED lights up.
- Set speed control (32) to the >0< position.
- Press RUN key (33).
LED lights up.
i The drive motor will not start if the speed control (32) is not
in the >0< position.
An optical and acoustic warning are given.
- Selected speed is achieved.
- Continue with the test stage "Switch on load resistance (31)".
