Power supply voltage.
ATTENTION
Make sure that the voltage and frequency ratings on the data plate of the electric motor correspond to those of the electricity
main. Ensure that the appropriate connection either star or delta is selected to suit the power supply.
In particular, remember that the delta connection always refers to the lower value of the two possible voltage ratings. Vice versa for star
connections. The ratio between the two voltage ratings is 1,73.
A +/-10% deviation from the power supply rating is tolerated for motors with data plate ratings of 230/400V or 400/700V since such motors can
also operate at 220 and 240, 380 and 415 +/-5% ratings.
Rotation direction.
ATTENTION
A wrong rotation direction could damage the pumping unit since the power draw and axial thrust of the pump could be
considerably higher than the forecast values.
Identify the exact rotation direction (clockwise for the pump shaft when viewed from the coupling side or for the electric motor, if
installed, when viewed from the fan side) by proceeding with the following operations:
1) fill the pump and pipe with water (consult paragraph 6.1 "Starting" for the relative instructions);
2) close the delivery sluice valve and start the electric pump for a few instants;
3) if the rotation direction is wrong, disconnect the power source and switch two of the three phase wires with each other.
Phase unbalance.
Check the power draw on each phase wire. Unbalances should not exceed 5%.
Higher values could be caused by the motor and/or the electricity main. Check the power draw in the other two motor-main
connection combinations, making sure that the same rotating direction is maintained.
The optimum connection is that with the least difference in power draw between the phases. Note that if the higher power draw is
always on the same line phase, the main cause of unbalance will be due to the power main.

USE AND MANAGEMENT
6.1
Starting:
It is forbidden to set the machine at work unless all the protections with which it must be equipped in order to comply with the safety
requirements, have been correctly installed.
ATTENTION
- the pump is supplied without oil. Pour lubricant into the bearing housing before starting (consult paragraph 6.3 "Maintenance" for
a description of the procedure);
- the unit must operate in a horizontal position to ensure that both bearings are lubricated.
- before starting, always prime the pump, venting off the air in the pipe and in the pump itself.
Comply with the following instructions if the pump is not installed below water level:
1) remove the plugs from the delivery and suction ports (when installed) and pour in water;
2) close the plug on the suction side when water begins to flow out;
3) close the plug on the delivery side when the pump is completely full.
ATTENTION
Consult paragraph 6.2 "Running and inspections" for the inspections required when the unit is started for the first time.
If the unit is unable to start (no "run-up"), do not persist as this would only damage it. Identify and eliminate the malfunction.
If an indirect starting system is used, the starting transient must be brief and must never last more than a few seconds.
General prescriptions for employ of INVERTER
When starting and/or during use, the minimum frequency must not be less than 70% of the rated value.
The motor must be ordered with the type of electric winding that suits the use required.
A filter that ensures compliance with the following conditions must be installed between the inverter and motor:
dV
Voltage gradient
dt
Harmonic content of the voltage ≤ 1.5 %.
Harmonic content of the current ≤ 4 %.
Conditions that must be complied with regardless of the length of the power cables.
General instructions for use of the SOFTSTARTER:
-
The SOFTSTARTER device must be the voltage ramp and not the current ramp type.
-
Always make sure that the softstarter is cut out once the starting phase of the assembly has terminated.
-
Minimum inrush voltage Vs = 60 % Vn.
-
Maximum acceleration time 4 s.
