1. Technical Data

Use for the intended purpose
WARNING
REMS Explorer is designed for tracking the position of a camera head with a 33 kHz
transmitter or the course of the pipe.
All other uses are not for the intended purpose and are therefore prohibited.

2. Commissioning
2.1 Inserting the batteries
Open the cover (Fig. 1 (1)) by turning the screw (2). Open the fl ap (4) of the
battery compartment by pushing the slide (Fig.2 (3)) in the direction of the arrow.
Remove the battery holder, insert six 1.5 V, AA, LR6 batteries into the battery
holder, paying attention to the correct position of the plus and minus poles.
Push the battery holder into the battery compartment, paying attention to the
correct position of the plus and minus poles (Fig. 2). Press the fl ap shut until
you hear it click into place. Close the cover by turning the screw. Always change
all 6 batteries at once.
CAUTION
CAUTION
Never charge the batteries. Always use 6 new batteries of the same type. Do
not use rechargeable batteries.
2.2 Switching on the tracking device
Press the On/Off button (Fig. 1 (5)) for approx. 1 s. The start screen with the
REMS logo appears in the display (6) for about 2 s and then this changes to
the tracking display. Tap the mode button (7) several times until the mode
pictogram (8) for tracking the transmitter is displayed. To amplify the tracking
signal, turn the signal strength adjusting wheel (9) clockwise and anti-clockwise
to reduce it. A recognized tracking signal is shown in black in the signal strength
display (10). The blacker the colour is, the stronger the tracking signal. A drag
pointer (11), to the highest measured signal strength, is retained briefl y. The
signal strength is also indicated acoustically by 2 loudspeakers (one of which
is removable) (12), the louder the signal is, the stronger the tracking signal.
The direction indicators (13) show the direction of the transmitter or the course
of the pipe.

3. Operation
3.1 Tracking the transmitter
Insert the camera head with transmitter for tracking in the pipe to be inspected.
On reaching the place to be tracked, do not push in the camera head any
further. Read and observe the operating instructions of the camera head with
transmitter for tracking.
Align the tracking device with the antenna (Fig. 1 (14)) at right angles to the
area to be searched. Set the signal strength display (10) to approximately the
middle of the black column with the signal strength adjusting wheel (9). System-
atically search the area in which the transmitter is suspected (Fig. 3.1). Keep
the tracking signal in the middle of the black column with the signal strength
adjusting wheel. The transmitter is at the strongest measured tracking signal
(Fig. 3.2). Hold the tracking device at the highest measured tracking signal and
turn it around its own axis until the direction indicators (13) are displayed fi lled
up with black (Fig. 3.3). Change the tracking signal with the signal strength
adjusting wheel so that the black column is set approximately in the middle. To
check the correct tracking result, move the tracking device from the determined
position diagonally about 30 cm (Fig. 3.4). Watch the drag pointer (11) which
shows the last measured highest signal strength. Now place the tracking device
for the depth measurement on the surface and press the tracking depth button
(15) briefl y. The depth in metres at which the transmitter is located is shown in
the display (6) (Fig. 3.5). The position of the transmitter can be determined
based on the direction indicators. The axis direction of the transmitter is offset
90° to the direction indicators (Fig. 3.6). If the tracking device is moved in axis
direction of the transmitter, a low signal strength occurs just before and just
after the transmitter and the direction indicators defl ect briefl y. These are pre-
and post-signals of the transmitter.
If the tracking depth button (15) is pressed for too long, a menu appears which
can be exited again by pressing the On/Off button (5).
NOTICE
Interference from the electromagnetic fi eld can lead to errors in the tracking
and in the depth measurement.
3.2 Determining the course of a pipe
The course of a pipe can be determined with the transmitter. For this, push the
transmitter for tracking into the pipe. Perform tracking as described in 3.1 Mark
the determined position. Push the transmitter further into the pipe, perform
tracking again and mark the determined position again. Repeat this process
until the course of the pipe can be determined. Keep the pushing intervals as
short as possible (approx. 2 to 3 m). This makes tracking of the transmitter
easier.
4. Maintenance
Notwithstanding the maintenance described below, it is recommended to send
in the power tool to an authorised REMS contract customer service workshop
for inspection and periodic testing of electrical devices at least once a year. In
Germany, such periodic testing of electrical devices should be performed in
accordance with DIN VDE 0701-0702 and also prescribed for mobile electrical
equipment according to the accident prevention rules DGUV, regulation 3
"Electrical Systems and Equipment". In addition, the respective national safety
provisions, rules and regulations valid for the application site must be considered
and observed.
4.1 Maintenance
CAUTION
CAUTION
Remove the battery holder before maintenance work!
Clean the REMS Explorer regularly especially when it has not been in use for
a long time. Remove the battery holder when REMS Explorer is not in use for
a longer period of time. Store the REMS Explorer in a dry place.
For reliable tracking, keep an eye on the battery capacity indicator (Fig. 1 (16))
and change batteries in good time, see 2.1
Clean plastic parts (e.g. housing) only with REMS CleanM machine cleaner
(Art. No. 140119) or a mild soap and a damp cloth. Do not use household
cleaners. These often contain chemicals which can damage the plastic parts.
Never use petrol, turpentine, thinner or similar products for cleaning.
Make sure that liquids never get onto or inside the tracking device. Never
immerse the tracking device in liquid.
4.2 Inspection/Repair
CAUTION
CAUTION
Remove the battery holder before carrying out maintenance and repair
work! This work may only be performed by qualifi ed personnel.
