4 Function of the filter
The Hydro Shield system is used to remove total hardness from cold water and is recommended for
use for machines susceptible to corrosion.
Hydro Shield reduces the scale content of tap water and thus protect the combi steamer, bake
off oven or other HORECA equipment from harmful limescale deposits.
Hydro Shield prevent gypsum precipitation in machines by removing Calcium bound to Sulphate.
Hydro Shield removes unpleasant odours and tastes, e.g. chlorine. Particles are also filtered out
of the water.

5 Operating and safety instructions

This section provides an overview of all the important operating and safety aspects to ensure safe,
trouble-free operation. Despite every safety precaution having been taken, every product includes re-
sidual risks, especially if handled incorrectly. The warranty will only be valid if the instructions in these
installation and operating instructions are observed and followed.
5.1

Proper use

The Hydro Shield system is designed and constructed exclusively for its proper use described within
this instruction. Any other use is deemed improper.

f The Hydro Shield filter system may only be supplied with cold water of drinking water quality.
Improper use, e.g. using the filter to treat water other than that of drinking quality, poses a health
hazard if you were to drink said water. This can be a microbiological hazard if the natural water is
contaminated by microbes. The hazard can also be caused by high concentrations of heavy
metals or organic impurities in the water.
f To protect the drinking water, the national directives for drinking water installations (e.g. DIN
1988, EN 1717) must be observed during all work on the Hydro Shield filter system.
f If you are asked by the relevant authorities to boil the tap water because it is contaminated by
microbes, this applies to the filtered water too. If the authorities later state that the water is safe
to drink, the Hydro Shield filter system must be replaced and the connections cleaned. Improper
use can cause damage to your health.
