Now break the chain. A chain breaker, which can be purchased separately, is suitable for this
purpose. Remove the chain and detach the sprocket. Immediately fit the new sprocket (visible
lettering) and screw it on loosely. Then remove the rear wheel. To make sure that the wheel
remains in position, place a wheel removal aid or a suitable block under the wheel before
removing the axle. Then loosen the axle nut and drive out the axle with a plastic hammer. Use a
rod if necessary. Protect the swing arm with a cloth so that the brake caliper with carrier does
not scratch the swing arm. Hold the wheel in place and carefully allow it to slide to the floor.
Make a note of the installation position of the spacer sleeves.
Unscrew the chain wheel from the sprocket mount on the rear wheel. Here too, bend open any
tab washers beforehand. You should always fit new tab washers or self-locking nuts. Clean
the mount and install a new sprocket (visible lettering). Tighten the bolts crosswise, preferably
using a torque wrench according to manufacturer specifications. Flatten any tab washers back
down. Check the wheel once more: do all the bearings and seals still look in good working
order? Is the damper behind the rear sprocket mount still correctly tensioned? Replace any
damaged components.
