ACCULAN reamer GA 613
2. Purpose
The ACCULAN reamer GA 613 is used for cutting an acetabulum and
for medullary reaming in bone surgery.
3. Mode of operation
In the ACCULAN reamer , the electric motor is supplied with power by
a battery and the output speed is electronically controlled. The reamer
is equipped with 2 gears. In 1st gear, the speed can be regulated up to
180 rpm with the trigger. In 2nd gear, the reamer reaches a speed of
max. 380 rpm.
The reamer has a right-handed drive.
The reamer is provided with a hole for receiving guide spikes up to a
diameter of 3.8 mm.
Note
The continuous speed regulation necessitates electronic components.
The conditions prevailing during sterilization (steam, temperatures,
etc.) subject these components to considerable stress. To avoid this
stress, the entire electronics of the ACCULAN reamer are integrated in
the battery 9, which must not be sterilized. The battery 9, too, should
therefore be treated with the care usual for a surgical instrument.
4. Putting into operation
To put the ACCULAN reamer GA 613 into operation, you require the
following components:
• ACCULAN charger GA 627 M
• Battery GA 626
• ACCULAN reamer GA 613
Before putting the reamer into operation, ensure that the required
accessories are available. You require charger GA 627 M and at least
one battery GA 626 to guarantee operation of the ACCULAN reamer.
Note
The special Aesculap Instructions for use must be followed for putting
the ACCULAN charger into operation.
Please also see the separate instructions for handling and care of the
battery GA 626 under Section 10.
5. Installation
5.1 Inserting the battery (Fig. 1 – 3)
ACHTUNG
Nickel-cadmium batteries must not be heated above 65 °C and
therefore must not be sterilized.
The following procedure should be adopted for the sterile preparation
of the reamer:
The reamer is placed upside down (battery shaft pointing upwards)
and the funnel 10 (sterile) is mounted on the reamer. The battery 9
(nonsterile) is then inserted into the charging shaft by a second person
(the battery cannot rotate) and the funnel 10 is removed and is placed
in the nonsterile room. The cover 7 (sterile) is then mounted and must
be snapped in securely.
The cover provides an absolute seal so that there is no danger of con-
tamination of the operation site by the unsterile battery.
5.2 Removing the battery (Fig. 4)
After the end of the operation and prior to cleaning and disinfection
and especially before sterilization, the battery must be removed.
To do this, the two cover releases 8 on the cover 7 must be pressed
simultaneously to enable the cover to be removed (the cover cannot
be opened if only one release is pressed). This ensures that accidental
opening is prevented if only one release is pressed. The battery can be
removed from the battery shaft by tapping on the palm of the hand
(Fig. 4).
Prior to battery removal, make sure that the trigger for speed control 3
is in the front position (rest position).
IMPORTANT
Knocking against hard objects damages the machine and may dam-
age the battery too.
5.3 Operation with Cement Injector GB 171 N
CAUTION
The battery GA 626 must always be changed over after cutting or
reaming using the ACCULAN reamer GA 613 and just prior to using
the cement injector. This is because only a fully charged battery is
sufficient to ensure that a change of battery during cement injec-
tion can be avoided.
Note
Removal of the battery GA 626 intraoperatively should be prepared
using the battery changer GA 614. Please refer to section 5.1 in the
users instructions.
