Maintenance
– The maintenance intervals must be established for each
individual installation. Depending on safety considerations
and application specific conditions the instrument is used
in, these might need to be shortened.
Every 6 months
– Inspection by trained service personnel.
– Check signal transmission to the central controller, LEDs
and triggering of alarm devices.
Calibrations have to be performed on a regular basis, see
9 Calibration
● To check the signal transmission to the central controller,
(see "Testing the analog interface", page 24)
● To check LEDs and triggering of alarm devices, (see
"Testing alarms/relays", page 23)
O
-Sensor test
2
To test Oxygen (O
) sensors for the proper zero point, only
2
nitrogen (N
) must be used! A test does not calibrate the
2
sensor. If the zero point is incorrect, contact Dräger or replace
the sensor.

11.1 Sensor replacement

WARNING
Faulty Calibration
Faulty Calibration may cause inaccurate readings.
► If the sensor is replaced, all settings and parameters must
be checked for correctness.
► Check calibration to verify proper operation.
Sensor lock (SNR - Lock)
®
Polytron
5100 EC-specific:
If a different sensor part number has been installed, the
display will toggle between 'SNR' and 'Lock' indicating that if
accepted, factory defaults will be loaded from the sensor.
®
Polytron
57x0 IR-specific:
Remedy
Tap [OK] and Factory
Defaults are loaded from
the instrument into the sen-
sor. CHk CONF CAL is dis-
played. Tap [OK] and
instrument will display
'walking dashes' then
return to normal operation.
Tap [OK] to acknowledge,
check all configuration val-
ues and re-check the cali-
bration.
Reduce temperature, cover
device with sun shield.
If a different sensor model has been installed (334, 340 or
CO
), the display will toggle between 'SNR' and 'Lock'
2
indicating that if accepted, factory defaults will be loaded to
the sensor.
To accept the new sensor
● Tap and hold [OK]
 A countdown will start from 5 to ensure that the sensor
will not be accepted by accident.

11.1.1 Polytron
5100 EC
A sensor can be replaced in the hazardous, classified area,
without interrupting the power supply.
Replacing the sensor
Refer to figure C on the fold-out page.
A sensor can be replaced at any time.
1. If required, set the maintenance current for the analog
interface.
a. To set the maintenance current, enter the menu. The
maintenance current is automatically transmitted when
entering the menu.
2. Replace the old sensor with a new sensor:
a. Loosen set-screw (2)
b. Unscrew bayonet ring (3)
c. Insert sensor (4) into the opening. The Dräger logo on
the sensor must point to the mark on the sensing head
housing (5).
d. Lock sensor with bayonet ring (3)
e. Tighten set-screw (2). Mandatory for Zone 22
installations.
 The warm-up phase starts.
 The maintenance signal on the 4-20mA interface
remains pending until the sensor is warmed-up.
Maximum warm-up time of a new sensor: see the
Instructions for Use for the sensor.
3. If necessary, apply the label included with the sensor to
the instrument. This identifies the gas type from a
distance, even if the power has failed.
4. Check calibration. If necessary, calibrate the instrument
(see "Calibration", page 15).
5. Check the installation requirements and instrument for SIL
status.
See sections "Explosion proof (Ex d) installation - without
Docking Station" through "Installation of sensors"
