3.2 PC system
The PC system consists of a PC, a 17" color monitor and a color
ink jet printer. The devices are commercially available compon-
ents. The PC and the monitor are manufactured by DELL and the
printer is manufactured by Lexmark.
The PC is integrated into an extremely service-friendly casing; in
order to open this casing, two buttons on the right-hand side and
on the left-hand side of the housing must be pressed, and then the
lid can be swung open. Inside, there are two full-size PCI slots,
which can e.g. be used for the COM3/4 PCI plug-in card (1 687
001 555N, drivers have been pre-installed). For the assembly, the
PCI adapter is pulled out at the metal bracket with an open PC
casing, then the cards are installed into the PCI holder, and this
holder is then plugged into the main PCI slot again (also see
installation instruction 1 689 978 445N).
The computer is equipped with a parallel interface, two serial
RS232 interfaces and four USB 1.1 (PC U01) or six USB 2.0
sockets (PC U03/U04). A 10/100 Ethernet network connection
is also 'on-board'.
i For the use of a network make sure that the PC was already
pre-adjusted to a fixed IP address. This can be changed into
a different address or into the automatic procuration of an IP
address under the network properties.
The U01 and U03 PCs are equipped with a 3.5" floppy disk drive
and a CD ROM drive. Instead of the CD ROM drive, the U04 PC
is equipped with a DVD drive.
Upon its delivery, the PC is equipped with an operating system
manager with 24 languages. Upon the start-up, you will be
requested to select the operating system language. This langua-
ge will then be installed on the PC. After the unpacking of the
image and a re-start, you can use the operating System Windows
ME in the selected language.
! When switching over to a different operating system langu-
age or upon a faulty installation or upon severe system
crashes, the images used during the first installation are
available as service CD. For a list containing the service CDs,
please see the installation instructions.
Starting with the U04 PC, the restoration of the operating
system is executed via the enclosed recovery CD 1 987 009
U36N.
Data which should be used in the future have to be saved on a
different data carrier before the use of a service CD or of a
recovery CD. The service CD or the recovery CD removes all
partitions and re-installs the operating system.
When connecting the PC to the SmartCard reader, be sure that
the serial connection is connected to COM port 1 of the PC
(starting with WA 9xx version 1.02, also COM 1-4).
! The 25-pin SUBD connector at the SmartCard reader is
provided for the use of an infrared remote control (optional
equipment) and should not be mistaken for the 25-pin parallel
port of the PC.
The PC is equipped with a standard PS/2 mouse. The keyboard,
also with PS/2 connection, is available in various country-specific
models (see installation instructions).

The protocol printer PDR U02 is a color ink jet printer. It is only
controlled via USB. The driver for this printer has been pre-
installed on the PC image.
! It is not recommended to install the original driver of the
manufacturer. Otherwise, an extensive management pro-
gram including a voice output will also be installed, which is
not desirable for the operation of the wheel alignment.
The power supply unit of the printer is integrated into a plug-in
cartridge on the rear side and can simply be pulled out, if it needs
to be replaced.
The printer is equipped with two ink cartridges (color – 1 987 009
UD2N and black – 1 987 009 UD1N). The ink cartridges are
replaced by opening the front cover compartment. The cartridge
carriage moves into the center position, making it possible to
remove the cartridges. During the replacement, be sure that the
securing strip is removed before inserting the new cartridge.
Then, insert the cartridge with the light green edge into the light
green compartment. Press the cartridge until it clicks into place.
Then, close the cover, and the cartridge moves back into its
operating position (also see installation instructions 1 689 978
438N).
If problems occur, a Lexmark Z25-Z35 help can be started with
the right-hand mouse button under Control Panel/Printer/PDR
U02. The menu item Maintenance offers a solution for various
problems such as print head cleaning or alignment.
For the screen, two models are used under the same item number
0 986 400 U00N: DELL E771P and DELL M782P. In the PC
image, the two model types have been installed so that both
monitors can be used. The electric plug-in connections are
identical. The casing dimensions slightly differ, but are identical at
the decisive points. A DELL E771P can be replaced by a DELL
M782P and vice versa.
The monitor is placed on top ot the trolley in such a way that the
center hole of the plastic base is placed onto the head of a
hexagon socket screw so that this is secured against moving.
In addition to that, it is possible to use the optional equipment
center plate (1 688 000 332N) or cover (1 685 519 958N) which
is already known from the NTS. When using together with a WA
9xx, a support sheet 1 987 009 UX0N (for the center plate) or 1
987 009 UX1N (for the cover) will be necessary.
