Service and Repair
Type 3638 A/B is designed and constructed to provide many years of reliable operation. Howev-
er, if a fault occurs that impairs the instruments' correct functions, then disconnect the various
components and remove the battery to prevent risk of further damage.
For more information about preventing faults or damage to your equipment, please read the
"Care, Cleaning and Storage" section below.

Care, Cleaning and Storage
Type 3638 A, Type 3638 B and all of their component instruments, are delicate precision equip-
ment. When handling, storing or cleaning it, please take the following precautions.
Handling the Instruments
•
Do not try to remove the microphone grid from the sound level meter as you can easily dam-
age the microphone in this way
•
Do not attempt to open the instruments. There are no user-serviceable parts inside. If you think
your instruments require service, please contact your Brüel & Kjær representative.
•
Do not allow the instruments to get wet.
•
Protect the instruments from impact. Do not drop them. Transport them in the supplied carry-
ing case.
Cleaning the Instruments
If the instrument casings become dirty, wipe them clean with a lightly dampened cloth. Do not
use abrasive cleansers or solvents. Do not allow moisture to enter the microphone, connectors
or casings.
Storing the Instruments
•
Keep the instruments in a dry place, preferably within the carrying case.
•
For long-term storage, remove the battery.
•
Do not exceed storage temperature limits of –25 to +70
