• The patient should be instructed to keep the leg extended when
sitting to increase comfort.
ENSURE THE END-USER AGREES TO THE FOLLOWING
1. Össur accepts no responsibility for any injury which might occur while
using Össur knee bracing products.
2. With use of this type of device, it is possible to receive various types
of skin irritation, including rashes and pressure points. If the brace
causes discomfort or any unusual reactions, discontinue use and
contact your health care provider immediately.
3. If you have any questions as to how this knee brace applies to your
own specific knee condition, consult your health care provider.
4. This brace is not intended to be used in moderate or high activity
and/or impact sports. If you do not agree to the above conditions,
contact your brace provider before using this product.
INITIAL BRACE APPLICATION
1. Unfasten all straps and the AMS wrap.
Note: Brace comes installed with a 0° extension stop and a 105°
flexion stop. Refer to the Range of Motion (ROM) adjustment section
if change in ROM is required.
2. The leg must be in full extension when brace is applied. Place the
hinge slightly above (approximately ¾") the joint line so the brace can
properly seat itself (Figure 2).
3. Beginning with the AMS wrap just below the knee, fasten the wrap
snugly, as this will aid in brace suspension (Figure 3).
4. Stabilize the brace by loosely attaching the distal anterior thigh
strap (C).
5. Next, snugly fasten the distal anterior tibial strap by inserting it
through the slot in the lower subshell while centering the tibial shell
on the Tibia (Figure 4).
6. Fasten the proximal thigh strap by inserting it through the slot in the
upper subshell (Figure 5).
7. Fasten the anterior distal thigh strap and center the femoral shell so
that the hinge is centered at midline (A/P) on the knee (Figure 6).
8. Fasten the distal posterior thigh strap to affix the hinge in its
centered position at midline A/P.
SETTING INITIAL TENSION
9. Three different shear knobs are included:
a. White / three raised dots (standard load)
b. Grey / two raised dots (intermediate load)
c. Black / one raised dot (low load)
Note: The standard load (white/three raised dots) is based on a
review by Jansson et al KSSTA 2012
10. With patient in standing position and leg in full extension, place the
desired shear knob in the diamond shaped hole on the spool. Slowly
turn the shear knob in the clockwise direction until the shear knob
breaks (Figure 7).
11. Discard the two pieces of the shear knob.
12. Place the DTS sticker on the spool to cover the diamond shaped hole.
This is to prevent the patient and/or anyone other than the healthcare
provider from adjusting the spool (Figure 8).
13. Provide instructions for use to the patient. Instruct the patient never
to remove the DTS sticker and never to adjust the spool.
