Tools Required

No. 2 Phillips screwdriver
Torque-indicator driver (included with the system in the green plastic holder in
the hard drive cage)

Preparing for Installation

To prepare for installation of optional components, you must power off the system,
remove the access panel, and attach an antistatic wrist strap.
1. Power off the system as follows:
a. Exit from any applications that are running.
b. There are two power-off methods, orderly or immediate:
For an orderly power-off, press the front panel power switch and immediately
release it. The operating system performs internal shutdown procedures.
For an immediate power-off, press and hold the power switch four seconds
before releasing it.
Note – The immediate power-off method does not perform an orderly shutdown of
the operating system and data might be lost.
c. Verify that the power indicator LED on the front panel power switch is off and
listen to verify that the system fans are not spinning.
d. Turn off power to the monitor and to all peripherals.
e. Disconnect cables to any peripheral equipment from the system.
2. Remove the access panel as follows:
Caution – As a safety precaution, the system is equipped with an interlock switch
that will immediately shut off system power when the access panel is opened. Be
sure to power off the system before you open the access panel to avoid losing data.
a. Remove the lock-block from the back panel, if installed.
b. Press down on the finger depressions on top of the access panel while pulling
the top of the access panel away from the system chassis.
