INITIAL FITTING
Establishing required length (Figure 2)
• Align the device to the user's prosthetic system to measure required
length.
• Mark where final upper line of calf fits user best, and mark with tape.
• Cut above taped line to provide an area to hold the device whilst
grinding.
Grinding to fit socket
• Grind the inner surface of the upper device area to fit socket well
(Figure 3).
• Components of the prosthetic system can be accommodated by
grinding in those areas. Grinding in the ankle area will allow easier
access to the Lock/Release button on the prosthetic foot.
• The device can be punctured by an awl or other sharp object to allow
easy access to valves or other components.
• After grinding, use pressurized air to remove any debris.
Cutting to size
• Cut the device at upper line previously marked by tape (Figure 4) for
appropriate length, or to mimic socket shape if desired.
Donning device
• Fold the device up at base (Figure 5).
• Pull device over the prosthetic leg and socket (Figure 6).
Preparing prosthetic foot
• Place the Spectra sock over the prosthetic foot (Figure 7a), ensuring
the sock is pushed into the gap in the sandal toe.
• Don foot cover with a shoe horn (Figure 7b).
Assembling prosthetic system
• Attach prosthetic socket to foot (Figure 8).
• Tighten bolts to secure.
• Pull Spectra sock up to leg pylon, and fasten with plastic strap
(Figure 9).
• Fold device down at base (Figure 10).
Gluing device to foot cover
• Press the Lock/Release button on the medial side of the prosthetic
foot to unlock. Extend the prosthetic system backwards at an angle
(Figure 11).
• Place glue (cyanoacrylate or equivalent) around the perimeter of both
the device and foot cover (Figure 12).
• Return the prosthetic system to maximum dorsiflexion, and lock the
foot by pressing the Lock/Release button on the lateral side
(Figure 13).
Assembly of prosthetic system
• Attach top of device to the socket system (Figure 14).
NB: Manipulation of the device during initial fitting may result in wrinkles
appearing on the ankle area. In such cases, heat may be applied via
a heat gun at 340°C at a length of 10-15 cm for 1-2 minutes, until wrinkles
fade (Figure 15).
