Battery Maintenance

4.3.1.
Battery Memory
Older battery technologies (such as lead acid) were prone to cell "memory" problems, meaning that
if they were left to sit in an uncharged state for any period of time, the lead acid cells would
experience almost immediate capacity degradation, causing them to lose power capacity
permanently. The next time the battery was charged it would be impossible to charge it to its
original, full power capacity.
The use of NiMH technology in the intrinsically safe 64060625/30538111 battery pack has all but
eliminated this permanent memory problem. However, NiMH cells can experience a temporary
memory problem if the batteries are repeatedly discharged only partially before being fully
recharged. Over a period of time, users would see lower power capacities even after the batteries
are charged for a typical full charge time period. This temporary memory can be erased by
depleting each battery to its lowest charge state and then fully recharging it.

When the battery pack has been fully charged the charger may be unplugged from the AC
mains power and then disconnected from the battery. The battery is now ready to be connected
to the intrinsically safe terminal.
Read all of these instructions before using the charger.
Charge only model 64050625 battery pack using the proper METTLER TOLEDO associated
charger.
Charge only model 30538111 battery pack using the proper METTLER TOLEDO associated
charger.
Do not expose the charger to moisture. The charger is intended for indoor use in dry areas only.
When charging, make certain the charger cable and battery are located so that they will not be
tripped over or otherwise subjected to damage or stress.
AC power extension cords must not be used with either charger.
If the charger has been dropped or damaged in any way, do not operate it until it has been
checked and approved for use by an authorized technician or electrician.
Do not disassemble the battery charger. There are no serviceable parts inside, and incorrect
assembly may result in a risk of electrical shock.
To reduce risk of electrical shock, unplug the charger from both the AC mains power and
battery pack before attempting any maintenance or cleaning.
If the charger shows operation, but doesn't charge battery, the protective fuse in the cable may
have been damaged or opened. Replace the entire power supply. Attempting to repair the
charger may compromise the intrinsic safety of the battery.
