4.3.1.1.
Preventive Action
If the intrinsically safe NiMH battery is used so that it is not routinely discharged to its lowest
capacity before being fully recharged, it is recommended that a planned full discharge followed by
a full recharge be carried out approximately every 3 months as a part of standard battery care
procedure in order to maintain full working capacity of the 64060625/30538111 battery pack.
4.3.2.
Battery Discharge
The NiMH battery pack will continue to discharge slowly while it is connected to the terminal - even
if the terminal is turned OFF. Because of this, it is recommended that the battery pack cable be
disconnected from the terminal when the battery will not be used for a long period of time.
There is also a small, continuous drain of power that occurs in a NiMH battery while it is being
stored. If the battery pack is placed out of service for more than a few days, it will be partially
discharged when it is used again. This is normal behavior of a NiMH battery pack. Be aware of this
effect when storing the battery pack - it may need to be recharged before the next use.

Troubleshooting and Service

Only qualified personnel should perform installation and service. Please contact a local METTLER
TOLEDO representative for assistance.
In general, once the 64060625/30538111 battery pack is installed for a given application, only
routine inspection and charging is required.
4.4.1.
Battery Pack
The 64050625/30538111 battery pack is designed to provide from 7 VDC to 10 VDC to power an
intrinsically safe terminal. If the battery fails to operate the terminal, disconnect the battery and
move it to a safe area and fully charge it (approximately 11 hours). After fully charging the battery,
test the output voltage. Refer to Figure 4-3 and Table 4-2 for the pin designations of the battery
pack. If the voltage is below 7 VDC, check the operation of the charger.
If the battery is fully charged to 10 VDC, reconnect the battery to the terminal and check operation. If
the terminal still does not operate, the terminal may need service. Refer to the service manual of the
terminal for further troubleshooting assistance.

ONLY PERMIT QUALIFIED PERSONNEL TO SERVICE THE BATTERY PACK. EXERCISE CARE WHEN
MAKING CHECKS, TESTS AND ADJUSTMENTS THAT MUST BE MADE WITH POWER ON. FAILING
TO OBSERVE THESE PRECAUTIONS CAN RESULT IN BODILY HARM AND/OR PROPERTY DAMAGE.
DISCONNECT AND REMOVE THE BATTERY PACK FROM THE HAZARDOUS AREA BEFORE TESTING
THE BATTERY VOLTAGE. DO NOT TEST BATTERY VOLTAGE WITHIN A HAZARDOUS AREA.
