Attention: in order to prevent any unwanted rotation and thus risk to the user, always make sure that the central
screw concerned (34, 35 or 36) is tightened to a torque of 35 Nm at the dynamic fitting session.
ALIGNMENT
The OH5/KH5 Knee knee joints are supplied by the factory in full working order with the basic settings.
Carefully start testing the function of the joint with the user at the dynamic fitting and check whether this basic
setting suits the needs of your patient.
If not, please go through the following steps.
Stance phase stability
Adjustment by shifting the joint
In the basic configuration described here, the axial alignment gives high stance phase stability.
This can be adjusted to the individual needs of the patient by shifting the knee joint in the AP direction.
Shift the joint backwards
—> safer alignment (Fig. 2)
Shift the joint forwards
—> more dynamic alignment (Fig. 3)
Swing phase control
You can set flexion and extension separately depending on the user's needs.
The hydraulic system is supplied in its basic setting. In the basic setting, valves A and B are both opened by one
turn (8 notches). Valve C is opened by 1½ turns (12 notches).
You can adjust the joint to any individual gait from this basic setting.
Adjusting the flexion and extension valves
A description of the function of the individual components
Valve A
Resistance to flexion above 60° flexion angle
Valve B
resistance to flexion from 0-60° flexion angle
Valve C
resistance to extension
Basic rule when setting up the joint
Open valve A + open valve B ≥ open valve C
To achieve a comfortable gait, first adjust the flexion with the patient walking slowly and at faster walking speeds.
Then the gait can be harmonised by adjusting the extension.
When setting up the joint, ensure that it is finely adjusted for the individual user and turn the valves in small steps
of 1 - 2 notches. Check the result.
Ask the user to walk more quickly and adjust the settings if necessary.
Excessive heel swing (above 60° f lexion angle)
Turn the flexion valve A to the right (Fig. 4)
Ask the user to walk at moderate walking speeds and adjust the settings if necessary.
Too much f lexion
Turn the flexion valve B to the right (Fig. 5)
Too little f lexion
Turn the flexion valve B to the left (Fig. 6)
