10. Checking and Maintenance of the Spark Plug:
Recommended spark plugs: F5T, F6TC, F7TJC or T or other equivalent.
In order to assure the good working of the engine, the spark plug must be free of deposits and the electrode
opening must be within the specified. Figure 9.5.
If the engine is working before the maintenance, the exhausting system will be very hot. Be careful not to touch
it to avoid burning. It is recommended to wait some minutes until the machine cools down to avoid accidents.
A. Remove the spark plug suppressive terminal;
B. Clean any dirt that is around the base of the spark plug, if possible with air jet, in order to avoid any material
to go into the cylinder.
C. Use the spark plug wrench that comes with the generator to disassemble the spark plug.
D. Inspect the spark plug visually. Discard it if the insulation is cracked or with chips. Clean the spark plug
using a steel brush in case it is reused.
E. Measure the spark plug electrode opening with a gauge plate and if necessary adjust the opening.
The spark plug electrode opening should be around 0.7mm. Figure 9.5.
F. Verify if the washer is in good conditions and thread the spark plug manually to avoid the thread to be mispo-
sitioned, thus damaging it;
G. After positioning the spark plug manually, tighten it using the spark plug wrench which comes with the
product.
If a new spark plug is installed, tighten one half of the turn after the spark plug has touched the washer ma-
nually. If it is a used spark plug being reinstalled, tighten between 1/8 and 1/4 of turn after the spark plug has
touched the washer.
ATTENTION:
heating and damage the engine. Never use spark plugs with temperature characteristics different from those
specified in this manual.
11. Transportation and Storage
In order to transport the generator, place the engine switch in the OFF position and close the fuel valve in order
to avoid leakages. Spilled fuel or its vapor might ignite.
Before storing the generator for a prolonged period of time:
A. Make sure the storing area is free of humidity and excessive dust.
B. Do pre storing maintenance according to the table below.
WARNING: The contact with the hot engine or with the exhaust system might cause burning. Allow the
engine and exhaust system to cool down before transporting the generator. Avoid dropping or denting the
generator, do not position heavy objects on it.
The spark plug must be correctly tightened. A badly fixed spark plug might suffer over
0.7 mm
