Installation of Jøtul I 80
Mini/ Maxi - Classic,
Harmony and Panorama
Make sure that the fireplace insert is free of damage before
commencing with the installation.

Laying the foundations

If the fireplace is to be built on a wooden floor, there will
usually be neccesary to reinforce the floor to avoid
overloading. The strain on the floor will vary according to
the weight of the masonry surrounding installed.
If a pre-fabricated surrounding is used, most of these will
have a weight which makes laying a foundation
unnecessary. Check with the supplier's catalogues.

Chimney

The connection to the chimney must be done in compliance
with the chimney supplier's assembly instructions.
It is important that the connection is made a little flexible
(i. e: tightening with the aid of a rope seal and furnace
cement) so that cracks do not occur.

The surrounding

Air should be allowed to flow between the insert and the
brickwork. The specified space for air into the base and out
of the top given below and in fig. 2 is the minimum
requirement. This is a safety measure to prevent a build up
of heat in the mantelpiece; and also to ensure sufficient
heat emission into the room.
It is very important that there is an open air supply to the
air intake at the top of the insert.
Ensure that there is a sufficient distance between the
surrounding and the insert´s air vent in order to supply the
insert with a reasonable amount of combustion air.

Air circulation

Air should be allowed to flow between the insert and the
brickwork. The specified space for air into the base and out
of the top which is given in the text and in fig. 2, is the
minimum requirement. This is a safety measure to prevent
a build up of heat in the surrounding; and also to ensure
sufficient heat emission into the room.

The use of a fireplace requires plenty of ventilation to the
room in which the fireplace is situated. If the house is badly
ventilated, the room must be equipped with extra fresh air
circulation, for example by means of a separate channel
under the base of the fireplace. The fresh air channel should
be as straight as possible. It should be possible to close the
channel with a damper in order to keep out cold air when
the fireplace is not being used. A good choice would be
Jøtul's own fresh air damper, catalogue no: 340654. The
channels in the fireplace room must be manufactured in
non-flammable materials. See fig. 2C.
