10 Maintenance
10.2 Disassembly/cleaning (250–5000 µl)
a.
Check the pipette tip cone for damage.
b.
Inspect the piston and seal for contamination.
c.
Check the device for leaks.
We recommend using the leak detector of BRAND, the BRAND PLT unit. As an alternative to this, aspi-
rate a sample and hold the instrument vertically for approx. 10 s. If a drop forms on the pipette tip, re-
fer to Troubleshooting.

Press side fasteners (J) simultaneously, and pull off
H
lower part of ejector (G').
b.
Unscrew the pipette shaft (H+I) from the handle.
c.
Pull the pipette shaft off the handle. The pipette shaft is
attached to the handle by a magnet.
d.
Pull to disconnect the magnetic connection of both
components, and remove the upper part of the ejector
(G).
e.
Unscrew the piston unit (H) and the lower part of the
shaft (I).

Remove the O-ring-seal from the piston unit and clean
it.
Do not disassemble the piston unit (G) any further.

g.
Clean the piston unit (H) and the bottom part of the
shaft (I) with a soap solution or isopropanol, and rinse
G'
with distilled water.
h.
Dry the parts (max. 120°C/248°F) and allow them to
cool.
i.
Carefully lubricate the inside and outside of the O-ring,
and mount it on the piston.
j.
Reassemble the individual components in reverse or-
der.
k.
Carry out reference run: (rEF), see Reference run
(rEF), p. 68.
