Testing
The full face mask must be tested whenever it has been used and after
all maintenance and repair work.
Test equipment and accessories: Tester R 53 400, two bayonet
catches AG 02 460, exhalation valve plug R 53 349.
Visual examination of speech diaphragm: Note section "Test and
maintenance intervals". Replace speech diaphragm, see "Replacing
speech diaphragm and O-ring".
Visual examination of exhalation valve: Remove cap from facepiece
connector and pull out valve disc. Valve disc and seat must be clean
and undamaged. If not, they must be cleaned or repaired. Moisten valve
disc with water and refit.
Check for leaks: Note Instructions for Use of the tester. Moisten inside
of softbody with water and mount full face mask on test head, see
"Putting on the mask". Inflate test head until softbody fits snugly all
round. Seal mask connections with bayonet catches. Build up 10 mbar
negative pressure. The full face mask is without leaks if the pressure
does not change by more than 1 mbar in one minute, otherwise:
Test with sealed exhalation valve: Remove exhalation valve disc.
Insert exhalation valve plug so that it engages. Build up 10 mbar
negative pressure. Remove the exhalation valve plug if the pressure
changes by less than 1 mbar in one minute. Refit exhalation valve disc
and repeat leak test. Otherwise:
Test for leaks under water: Immerse test head with full face mask in
water. Build up excess pressure of approx. 10 mbar and slowly rotate
test head under water. Rising air bubbles indicate the location of the
leak. Remove test head and full face mask from water and seal leak.
Remove exhalation valve plug and fit exhalation valve disc. Repeat leak
test.
After testing: Remove bayonet catches. Remove full face mask from
test head and dry it if necessary. Refit protective cap, ensuring that it
engages.
Special Maintenance
Replacing the visor: Remove the two tensioning screws. Prise
clamping frame apart at the connecting points with a screwdriver, then
pull it off to the top and bottom. Remove supporting plate if necessary.
Remove old visor from rubber enclosure and fit new visor in rubber
enclosure, first at the top, then at the bottom. Centre marks on visor
must line up with seam in faceblank. Pull rubber enclosure over rim of
visor on the right and left. Moisten outside of rubber enclosure and
inside of clamping frame with soapy water. Press first the upper
clamping frame and then the lower clamping frame into place. Fit
supporting plate if necessary. Screw tensioning screws down securely.
Replacing the valve discs in the check valves of the inner mask:
Pull old valve discs out to the inside. Pull lug of new valve discs into
hole from inside and pull it towards visor until undercut in lug appears.
The valve discs should fit uniformly on the inside.
Replacing the speech diaphragm and O-ring:
Pull inner mask out of groove of screw ring.
Unscrew speech diaphragm with key
R 26 817. Remove O-ring from mask
connection with extractor R 21 519. Examine
O-ring and replace it if necessary. Moisten
new O-ring with soapy water before inserting
it. Screw in screw ring and tighten into place
with key R 26 817. When assembling parts, ensure that edge of inner
mask engages in groove of speech diaphragm and encloses speech
diaphragm completely. Centre marks on mask connector and inner
mask must be lined up.
Replacing the exhalation valve disc: See "Visual examination of
exhalation valve". Refit protective cap, ensuring that it engages.
Replacing the inhalation valve discs: Remove the inhalation valve
discs and fit new ones.
Only use authentic Dräger spare parts.
Repeat leak test after maintenance work and/or after replacing
parts.
