CHAPTER 10 - PREPARING FOR USE
If the machine is already equipped with installed batteries, proceed as follows:
Check in the battery compartment that the power cables of the electrical system are connected to the batteries
as indicated in the battery diagram .
Move the key switch to "ON" (ITEM H FIG. 2) and check the battery indicator (ITEM G FIG. 2): If the indicator
is at the highest level, it means that the batteries are ready for use . If the indicator does not reach the maximum
level, it is necessary to proceed with charging before use. See paragraph "Charging the batteries".
If the machine has been sold to you WITHOUT the batteries installed, the following rules must be
followed:
Ask your authorised dealer about the type of batteries recommended .
DO NOT install two 12 volt batteries in the machine . The stability of the machine would be compromised .
EXERCISE EXTREME CAUTION WHEN WORKING ON THE BATTERIES. THE SULPHURIC
ACID IN BATTERIES CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY IF IT COMES INTO CONTACT WITH
THE SKIN OR EYES.
Explosive hydrogen is vented through the openings in the battery caps . This gas can be ignited by electric arc,
spark or flame. Never install lead acid batteries in a sealed container or enclosed space. Hydrogen gas
resulting from overcharging must be able to escape.
IF THE BATTERIES ARE NOT INSTALLED AND CONNECTED CORRECTLY, THE ELECTRICAL
COMPONENTS OF THIS MACHINE MAY BE SERIOUSLY DAMAGED.
THE BATTERIES MUST BE INSTALLED BY A QUALIFIED TECHNICIAN OR BATTERY
MANUFACTURER.
PRECAUTIONS:
•
Remove any jewellery
•
Do not smoke
•
Wear goggles, rubber gloves and a rubber apron
•
Work in a well-ventilated area
•
Prevent tools from coming into contact with more than one battery clamp at the same time
•
To avoid sparks, always disconnect the negative cable first when replacing the batteries
•
When installing the batteries, always connect the negative cable last .
BEFORE PROCEEDING, MOVE THE KEY SWITCH (ITEM H FIG. 2) INTO THE OFF
POSITION AND REMOVE THE KEY.

Open the battery compartment cover (ITEM 3 FIG. 3) and position the cover holder.
With the help of another person, using an appropriate lifting strap, gently lift the batteries and insert them into
the tray of the compartment, with the poles turned as shown in FIGURE 5
Connect the cable terminals of the electrical system (ITEM 1A FIG. 5) to the batteries and make sure that the
switch (ITEM M FIG. 2) EMERGENCY STOP is in the STOP position (PRESSED), then close the battery compartment
cover .
