Replacement Instructions
– Identify the cables that control the respective solenoids of
the ECAS1 valve. Each of the solenoid numbers is found on
the housing (FIGURE A). A functional diagram is provided
in FIGURE B. First start with the solenoid 44 which con-
trols the kneeling function. Mark the cable using a label for
example, with number representing solenoid, e.g.: 4, which
stands for solenoid 44 (FIGURE C).
– Identify the cables on the block equipped with three sole-
noids: 41, 42 and 43. This block will now be called Valve I.
Mark the cables connected to solenoids, using labels for
example, with numbers representing solenoid and valve
numbers, e.g.: V I, 1, which stands for Valve I, solenoid 41
(FIGURE C).
– Proceed in a similar manner with the second block, now
called Valve II, equipped with only two solenoids: 42 and 43.
Once you have identifi ed the cables, label them using the
same format, e.g.: V II, 2, which stands for Valve II, solenoid
42 (FIGURE C).
!
The numbers 1, 2, and 3 are printed on the branches of the
adapters 894 601 163 2 and 894 601 162 2. Connecting
cables with the same number on both the adapter and the
vehicle harness will result in correct valve operation.
ECU failure
CAUTION
Mismatched polarity will cause a
short circuit and thus a potential
failure of the ECU.
– Adapter sockets M27 have
– Having identifi ed the polarity of the harness you can start
connecting the respective branches of the adapters (FIG-
URE E):
– Connect adapter 894 601 163 2 to the cables which
operate solenoids of the Valve I.
– Connect adapter 894 601 162 2 to the cables which
operate solenoids of the Valve II.
– Connect adapter 894 601 134 2 to the cable which oper-
ates solenoid 44 (kneeling function).
4.3
Assembly
The prepared harness can now be connected to the new
ECAS3 valve by means of the bayonet socket.
– Connect the adapter with the cables from Valve I to the new
ECAS3 block with silencer.
– Connect the other adapter with cables from Valve II to the
second free bayonet socket.
– Connect remaining single cable to the single solenoid on the
side of the ECAS3 valve.
4.4
Diagnostics
!
It is mandatory to perform a functional test!
"+" and "-" signs next to
the pins (FIGURE D). It is
essential to identify positive
and negative polarity on
the vehicle harness before
connecting the harness to the
adapter.
– Perform a functional test using the WABCO Diagnostic Soft-
ware for your ECU to make sure that the upgraded system
works properly.
4.5
Test drive
!
It is mandatory to carry out a test drive!
– Carry out a test drive to make sure that the solenoids are
operated according to the diagram.
