4. Installing the product
4.1 Location
Install the product so that inspection, maintenance
and service can easily be performed.
Install the product in a well-ventilated location to
ensure cooling of its components.
The product can be installed indoors or outdoors,
but it must be protected from exposure to direct
sunlight, rain and snow.
4.1.1 Minimum space
Recommended clearance around the product:
•
3.25 ft (1 m) on the front and on both sides of
the product to ensure space for service and
maintenance
•
minimum 2 in. (50 mm) of space at the back to
ensure sufficient motor cooling.
4.1.2 Cooling the motor
•
Install the motor allowing a distance (D) of 2
in. (50 mm) minimum between the end of the
fan cover and the wall or another fixed object.
•
Position the product with sufficient space
around.
•
Make sure that the temperature of the cooling
air does not exceed 122 °F (50 °C).
•
Keep cooling fins and fan blades clean.
4.1.3 Installing the product in moist
surroundings
If you install the motor in moist sur-
roundings or areas with high humidity,
ensure that the bottom drain hole is
open. As a result, the motor becomes
self-venting, allowing water and humid
air to escape.
4.1.3.1 Drain holes
When the motor is installed in moist surroundings
or areas with high air humidity, the bottom drain
hole should be open.
The enclosure class of the motor will then become
lower. The open drain hole helps to prevent
condensation in the motor as it will make the
motor self-vent and allow water and humid air to
escape.
The motor has a plugged drain hole on the drive
side. The flange can be turned 90 ° to both sides
or 180 °.
4.1.4 Installing the product outdoors or in
If you install the product outdoors or in areas with
high humidity, take the following action to avoid
condensation on the electronic components.

quirements must be applied to the
equipment. See the appendix concern-
ing installation in the USA and Canada.
Provide the product with a suitable cover.
The cover must be large enough to ensure
that the product is not exposed to direct
sunlight, rain or snow. Grundfos does not
