Never touch welded parts with unprotected body parts. Always wear welding gloves and pliers when
touching or moving welded material.
4.3. Preparation of the workplace for welding
Caution! Welding can cause a fire or explosion.
Observe occupational safety and health regulations for welding and equip the work area with
a suitable fire extinguisher.
Welding in areas where flammable materials can be ignited is prohibited.
Do not weld in an atmosphere containing an explosive mixture of flammable gases, vapours,
mists or dusts with air.
All flammable materials must be removed within a 12 m radius of the welding area, or if this is
not possible, the flammable materials must be covered with a non-combustible cover.
Take precautions against sparks and glowing metal particles.
Be aware that sparks or hot metal splatter may pass through gaps or openings in protective
covers, shields or screens.
Do not weld tanks or drums that contain or have contained flammable substances. Do not weld
in their vicinity either.
Do not weld pressurized tanks, pressure piping or pressure accumulators.
Always ensure sufficient ventilation.
Assume a stable position before welding.
4.4. Personal protective equipment
Caution! Arc radiation can damage the eyes or skin of the body.
When welding, wear clean, oil-free protective clothing made of non-flammable and non-
conductive material (leather, thick cotton), leather gloves, high boots and a protective hood.
Get rid of flammable or explosive objects such as propane-butane lighters or matches before
welding.
Use face protection (helmet or shield) and eye protection with a filter with a degree of darkness
matched to the welder's vision and welding current. The safety standards propose color # 9
(minimum # 8) for any current below 300 A.
Always use approved safety glasses with side shields under the helmet or other shielding.
Use a work area shield to protect others from glare or spatter.
Always wear earplugs or other hearing protection to protect against excessive noise and to
prevent splatter from entering the ears.
Bystanders should be warned against looking at electric arc.
4.5. Protection against shock
Caution! Electric shock can be fatal.
Plug the power cord into the nearest outlet and arrange it in a practical and safe manner. Avoid
spreading the cable carelessly around the room on an unstudied surface, which may result in
electric shock or fire.
Contact with electrically charged parts may cause electric shock or severe burns.
The electric arc and the working area are electrically charged when current flows.
The input circuit and the internal current circuit of the unit are also energized when the power
is turned on.
Do not touch electrically energized parts.
Wear dry, lint-free, insulated gloves and protective clothing.
Use insulating mats or other insulating coverings on the floor that are large enough to prevent
body contact with the object or floor.
Do not touch the electric arc.
