D. THE HELMET
Note:
With faired motorcycles, strong eddy currents occur at the edges of
the wind shadow. These may significantly reduce the aeroacoustic
performance of the helmet. The motorcycle fairing should be adjusted
so that the turbulence created does not reach the bottom surface of
the helmet.
Tip:
To ensure the helmet is as quiet as possible, the fit on the underside
of the helmet is important. This area needs to be well sealed off.
If you have a slim neck, it is advisable to use a scarf additionally.
Caution:
The improved sealing in the lower section of the helmet can lead to
an increased concentration of moisture inside the helmet, and thus to
misting of the face shield, sun visor and eye glasses. This effect takes
place when the helmet is not in an airstream but the face shield is
closed (e.g. behind high motorcycle fairing or stopped at traffic lights)
and the venting element in the chin section is thus unable to function
adequately. If misting occurs, please open the visor so that there is
a small gap through which the moisture can escape. Never ride with
restricted vision.
