Replacement Instructions

Identify the cables that control the respective solenoids of
the ECAS1 valve. Each of the solenoid numbers is found on
the housing (FIGURE A). A functional diagram is provided in
FIGURE B.

Mark the cables connected to solenoids using labels with the
numbers 1,2 and 3 as shown in FIGURE C. Number 1, 2 and 3
should represent consecutive solenoid numbers, e.g.: 1 stands
for 41.
The numbers 1, 2, and 3 are printed on the branches of the
adapter 894 601 163 2. Connecting cables with the same
number on both the adapter and the vehicle harness will result
in correct valve operation.
ECU failure
CAUTION
Mismatched polarity will cause a
short circuit and thus a potential
failure of the ECU.

Having identified the polarity of the harness you can start con-
necting the respective branches of the adapter (FIGURE E).
4.2.2
Assembly
The prepared harness can now be connected to the new ECAS3
valve by means of the bayonet socket.

To finalise the upgrade connect the pneumatic lines according
to designation and mount the valve at its original position in the
vehicle.
4.2.3
Diagnostics
It's mandatory to perform a functional test!

Perform a functional test using the WABCO Diagnostic Software
for your ECU to make sure that the upgraded system works
properly.
4.2.4
Test drive
It is imperative to carry out a test drive!
–
Carry out a test drive to make sure that the solenoids are oper-
ated according to the diagram.
4.3
Double block ECAS1 valve
4.3.1
Disassembly
Detach the device for ease of inspection. Do not disconnect
–
any cables or pneumatic lines at this stage.
–
Label the pneumatic lines according to the port designations on
the housing. This step is necessary to ensure that subsequently
the pneumatic lines are correctly reconnected to the new valve.
Once you have completed this step the pneumatic lines can be
disconnected using an open-ended spanner )size 27(.

Identify the cables that control the respective solenoids of
the ECAS1 valve. First, start with the block equipped with the
silencer. This block will now be called Valve I. Each of the
solenoid numbers is found on the Valve I housing (FIGURE F).
Please refer to FIGURE G for a functional diagram.

Adapter sockets M27 have "+"
and "-" signs next to the pins
(FIGURE D). It is essential to
identify positive and negative
polarity on the vehicle harness
before connecting the harness
to the adapter.

Mark the cables connected to solenoids, using labels for exam-
ple, with numbers representing solenoid and valve numbers,
e.g.: V I,1, which stands for Valve I, solenoid 41 (FIGURE H).

Proceed in a similar manner with the second block, now called
Valve II. Once you have identified the cables, label them using
the same format e.g.: V II,1, which stands for Valve II, solenoid
41 (FIGURE H(.

The adapter with the cables from Valve I must be connected to the
new ECAS3 block with silencer. The other adapter with cables from
Valve II must be connected to the second free bayonet socket.
4.3.3
Diagnostics
It is mandatory to perform a functional test!

for your ECU to make sure that the upgraded system works
