PROTECTION AGAINST INTERNAL CORROSION
- COMBUSTION CHAMBER
Operation to be performed in each cylinder:

Remove the heating glow plug from the
head, check that the piston is in its lowest
stroke position (bottom dead centre), then
spray with Petronas PROT 30 M protective
oil. Reinstall the glow plug.
- TURBOCHARGER
Remove the plug of the oil delivery pipe
to the turbocharger, and fill the hole of
turbocharger body with Petronas PROT 30
M protective oil. Refit the plug and tighten
it to a torque in Nm 24,5.
- ELECTRIC COMPONENTS
Apply corrosion protection spray to the
electric contacts and connectors.
- AIR INTAKE SYSTEM
Check the air filter integrity, and the
possible presence of foreign bodies/
liquids:
- if the air filter is damaged, replace it.
- if there are any foreign bodies or liquids,
remove them.
- LUBRICATION SYSTEM
This procedure must be carried out
together with the injection system
protection procedure (described below).
- Using the oil dipstick, check the presence
of engine oil in the sump
- Drain the oil from the sump, if any.
- Fill the engine with protective Petronas
PROT 30 M oil. Do not exceed the
maximum oil level in the sump.
- Make sure that the coolant complies
with the specifications contained in the
technical data table on page 14. For the
quantity of coolant, respect the instructions
of the manufacturer of the vehicle in which
the engine is installed.

- Start the engine and operate it at an
operating temperature of 70°C - 80°C
(158°F- 176°F) for approx. 5 minutes, so
that the system components are lubricated
and the injection system is protected.
- Keep the engine at an operating
temperature of 70°C - 80°C (158°F-

- Turn off the engine according to the
information on page 28.
- Check and fix any fluid leaks.
INJECTION SYSTEM
This procedure must be carried out
together with the lubrication system
protection procedure described above:
- Make sure that the fuel tank is perfectly
clean and that the fuel used complies with
the specifications UNI EN 590. Fill the tank
with a mixture of fuel compliant with the
above specifications and Petronas DIESEL
TNF PLUS additive in a mixing ratio of
1 (one) litre of additive per 400 (four
hundred) litres of fuel.
Then the engine can be reused without the
need of replacing the fuel mixed with the
additive.

Pay attention to hot surfaces and
radiated heat.
- Danger of electrocution:
Do not come into contact with the
electrical components, wiring harness
and other engine parts without having
removed the ignition key and waiting at
least 6 minutes before disconnecting
the negative battery cable.
