Filling with EMS AirFlow Prophylaxis Powder
Should the powder chamber (13) of the AirFlow S2 be empty, fill the chamber (13) with
one sachet of EMS AirFlow Prophylaxis Powder. The unit must not be switched on
while being filled. Check that the green control lamp (2) is off. Unscrew the lid (14)
from the powder chamber (13). Use original 40g sachets of EMS AirFlow Prophylaxis
Powder only.
Caution - Do not fill the chamber (13) with too much powder. Fill the powder chamber up
to the marking, as indicated on the lid (14). An excess of powder may block the AirFlow
handpiece hose (18), AirFlow handpiece barrel (19) and AirFlow nozzle (20).
Once the chamber has been filled with EMS AirFlow Prophylaxis Powder, use a soft
cloth or a tooth brush to clean the powder off the lid and both threads.
Caution - Ensure that the powder chamber (13) remains absolutely dry, otherwise the
powder may become lumpy.
Then screw the lid (14) onto the powder chamber (13). Ensure that the powder
chamber is closed tight. Otherwise air and/or powder could leak from between the
lid (14) and the powder chamber (13).
Switch the AirFlow unit on at the power switch (22). The green control lamp (2)
illuminates. Begin adjusting the air/powder mixture and the water flow rate. Remove the
AirFlow handpiece from its holder (17). The handpiece holder (17) includes a safety
mechanism which prevents the handpiece being operated inadvertently as long as it is in
the holder (17). The safety mechanism also prevents the Piezon unit being operated as
long as the AirFlow handpiece hose (18) is not in the holder (17).
Adjusting the water flow rate and air/powder mixture
Now adjust the water flow rate and the air/powder mixture required for the treatment -
use the footswitch (23). Depressing the AirFlow S2 footswitch gently activates the water
supply and depressing it further activates the air/powder mixture. Never use the AirFlow
unit dry as this makes evacuating the air/powder mixture difficult and may result in injury
to the gingiva.
Adjust the water flow rate with the "Water" knob (15). Aim the AirFlow nozzle (20) at
your wash basin, approximately 20 cm from it. When carrying out treatment with an
AirFlow unit, it is advisable to set the "Water" knob (15) to medium. The unit cleans
optimally at this basic setting. Adjust the water flow rate so that the water just drips out
of the AirFlow nozzle (20) rather than running out of it. Increasing the water flow rate
reduces the cleaning effect and makes polishing more effective.
