Safety precautions
EMS accepts no liability for direct or consequential injury or damage resulting from improper use, arising in
particular through the non-observance of the operating instructions, or improper preparation and
maintenance. The provision of technical documents does not imply any authorization for any adjustment,
repair or modification of this EMS product.
Danger - Sterilize before first use
Clean, disinfect and sterilize new or repaired Piezon handpieces, instruments, AirFlow nozzles and AirFlow
handpiece barrels before first use. Please refer to the information provided in the operating instructions.
Danger - Use for the intended purpose only
Failure to observe the operating instructions may result in the patient or user suffering serious injury or the
product being damaged, possibly beyond repair. Before using the product, make sure that you have studied
and understood the operating instructions. This also applies to any product used with the AirFlow S2.
Danger - For use by qualified and trained personnel only
The AirFlow S2 must not be used by other than properly qualified and trained personnel, in medical
facilities.
Caution - Always examine the unit and accessories for damage before commencing treatment

S2 or damaged accessories must not be used and must be replaced.
Danger - Do not install where there is a risk of explosion
The AirFlow S2 is not intended for operation in presence of inflammable anaesthetics or gases.
Caution - Use EMS AirFlow Prophylaxis Powder only
When treating patients with the AirFlow unit of the AirFlow S2, use original EMS AirFlow Prophylaxis
Powder only. Do not use powder manufactured by other companies. They would damage the AirFlow S2 or
impede its performance.
Caution - Never use a chemical vapour or hot air sterilizer
Never sterilize the handpieces in a chemical vapour or hot-air sterilizer and do not immerse them in liquid
disinfectants. This may damage the handpieces.
Danger - Only use sterilized Piezon handpieces, instruments, AirFlow nozzles and AirFlow handpiece barrels
As non-sterilized Piezon handpieces, instruments, AirFlow nozzles and AirFlow handpiece barrels may be
contaminated and cause bacterial or viral infections, you must always sterilize the Piezon handpieces,
instruments, AirFlow nozzles and AirFlow handpiece barrels after treatment.
Danger - Contraindications for treatment with the Piezon unit
Ultrasonic oscillations may prevent cardiac pacemakers functioning properly. Therefore, EMS recommend
that patients with a cardiac pacemaker should not be treated with the Piezon unit of the AirFlow S2.
Caution - Never scale metal or porcelain
Never use Piezon Scaling instruments on metal or porcelain restorations. The high frequency ultrasonic
oscillations may loosen the restoration.
Danger - Never work dry
Never use Piezon Scaling instruments dry. If used dry, the tips will become hot immediately. This may
cause thermal injury to the tooth. Ensure that adequate liquid coolant is always available.
Danger - Instruments could break
During treatment, the Piezon Scaling instruments oscillate at a high frequency . In rare cases, these
oscillations may cause the instrument to fracture during treatment. To prevent the fractured section of the
instrument being inhaled, please instruct the patient to breathe through the nose throughout the treatment.
