AirFlow S2
Danger - Contraindications for treatment with the AirFlow unit
Patients suffering from chronic bronchitis or asthma must not be treated with the AirFlow unit of an AirFlow
S2 as the fine, air/powder spray may cause them difficulty in breathing.
Patients on a low salt diet must not be treated with the AirFlow unit of an AirFlow S2 as EMS AirFlow
Prophylaxis Powder consists of sodium bicarbonate and therefore contains salt.
The citrus flavour added to EMS AirFlow Prophylaxis Powder may cause allergic reactions in a few
exceptional cases. The AirFlow unit of the AirFlow S2 must not be used on patients known to react in this
manner.
Danger - Wear safety glasses
All persons involved in the treatment with the AirFlow unit of an AirFlow S2 must wear safety glasses.
Should the powder jet be aimed at the eyes inadvertently, it may injure them seriously. The fine powder
particles can also get into the eyes and under contact lenses. This could lead to irritation of the eyes.
Anyone who wears spectacles must remove them as this treatment would dirty them.
Please note - Wear a face mask
Inhaling EMS AirFlow Prophylaxis Powder may place the operator at risk unnecessarily. We recommend
wearing a face mask.
Danger - Never aim the powder jet at the gingiva
Never aim the AirFlow nozzle directly at the gingiva during treatment with the AirFlow unit of an AirFlow S2.
The air/powder jet is too powerful for this purpose and may injure the gingiva. In addition, there is a risk of
embolism due to air being blown into the circulatory system.
Caution - Never aim the powder jet at fillings or dentures
Never aim the AirFlow nozzle directly at dentures or metal, composite or porcelain restorations during the
treatment. The air/powder jet could be too powerful for this purpose and may change the surface or
structure of the specific material.
Please note - Use a dust extractor
During treatment with the AirFlow unit of an AirFlow S2, please use the high volume extractor on your
dental unit to extract the air/powder mixture which rebounds from the tooth.
Caution - Check the safety status after repair
The safety status of the AirFlow S2 and accessories must comply with the applicable standard for this type
of product after it has undergone any type of repair or modification. A report must be drawn up in respect of
every inspection, repair or modification.
