pin (5) to release ratchet pawl (7) and remove reverse pin (8) and
spring (9) from ratchet anvil
assembly.
Pull out reverse lever (6) from
ratchet anvil assembly.
Do not remove ball from square drive on
ratchet anvil (11). Look through the slot in the side of ratchet housing
(16) and centralize
the pin end of crankshaft
(4) in the slot and this
will enable the yoke (2) and drive bushing (3) to slide out of ratchet
housing
(16).
Loosen clamp nut (19) and then unscrew the ratchet
housing
(16) (left hand thread) from clamp nut (19). Crankshaft
(4)
and drive bushing
(3) can be removed from ratchet housing (16).
Needle bearing (17) and bushing (18) may be pressed out of ratchet
housing
(16).
Unscrew and remove clamp nut
(19).
Pull out planet
cage (20) with 3 pins (21) and 3 planet gears
(22).
At this time. it is
necessary
to unscrew
internal
gear (23) from motor housing (34).
This requires
the use of a special wrench which is inserted in the
teeth of the internal gear. Seek advice from your distributor or repair
agent. 'NOTE:
it is sometimes
necessary
to provide some local
heating to the internal gear to break the adhesive seal on the thread
to assist in the removal of the internal
gear.
Remove washer (24)
and the motor assembly from motor housing (34). Grip the front end
plate (26) by hand and with a non-metallic
or soft metal (lead or
aluminium)
hammer so as not to damage the
splines,
tap the splined
end of rotor
(29)
to drive it through
the front end plate
(26)
and
bearing
(25)
assembly.
Take off cylinder
(27) and remove 4 rotor
blades (30) from rotor
(29).
Note how the cylinder (27) locates on roll
pin (28) In rear end plate (31) for
reassembly.
Pry out plastic bearing
cap (33) from rear end plate (31). Support rotor (29) with a piece of
tube with a bore diameter
as close as possible
to the maximum
diameter of the rotor (29) and tap the non-spined
end of rotor (29) to
drive it through the rear end plate (31) and bearing (32)
assembly.
With a suitable punch tap out bearing (32) from rear plate (31) and
bearing
(25) from front plate (26). Unscrew
valve screw (35) and
take out O-ring
(36),
spring
(37),
valve (38) and pin
(39).
Reassembly
Clean all parts and examine for wear before reassembling.
Look in
particular for wear, cracks, damage, etc. on ratchet pawl (7). ratchet
anvil (11) and yoke (2).11 is good practice to replace 2 springs (12)
and spring (9) if the reverse valve lever (6) slips or is inclined to slip.
Do not attempt to remove the 3 pins from planet cage
(20).
These
pins measure 0.1574" (4mm) when
new.
Replace the complete planet
cage with pins if the pins have worn below
0.155"
(3.937mm)
diameter. Lightly coat all parts in oil and pack
bearings,
gears and
ratchet
drive mechanism
with a lithium or a molybdenum
based
general purpose grease.
Motor Assembly
If fitting a new
rotor,
very lightly deburr the edges of the rotor slots
and make sure the rotor blade slots are clean. Make sure the faces
of end plates (26) and (31) that abut cylinder (27) are free from burrs
and sur1ace
mar1<ing.
" necessary, lap faces on a flat very fine grade
of abrasive paper. Press bearing (32) and bearing cap (33) into rear
plate (31) and bearing (25) into front plate (26). Support bearing (32)
in rear plate (31) on the inner race with bearing cap (33) and locate
rotor
(29)
and tap the spline end of the rotor with a non-metallic
or
soft metal hammer until the rotor locates up against the face of the
end plate
(31).
Support the inner face of the rear end plate (31) in a
piece of tube with a bore diameter
as close as possible
to the
maximum
diameter of the rotor (29) and tap the non-splined
end of
the rotor (29) until a clearance
of 0.04 mm (0.0015")
to 0.065 mm
(0.0025")
is obtained between
the inner face of the rear end plate
(31) and the rotor
(29). 'NOTE:
this
clearance
to be checked when
pulling the rotor (29) by hand away from rear plate (31) and bearing
(32) assembly. Spin the rotor (29) to ensure that it will spin freely in
the rear end plate (31) and bearing (32)
assembly.
Fit rotor blades
(30)
and locate cylinder (27) and
push
on front end plate
(26)
and
bearing
(25) assembly
making
sure the cylinder
(27)
is tightly
located between the end plates
(26, 31).
Check that rotor (29) still
spins freely.
