Magnetizing a tire
This unit uses the tire's magnetism to detect wheel rotation. To assure correct operation of
this unit, magnetize the tire correctly following the instructions. If the tire is incorrectly
magnetized, its magnetism will not be detected, resulting in an increase in error's for the
location display.
Selecting the desired tire for magnetizing
• The tire to be magnetized can be
either one of the rear tires.
• Install the sensor unit in the trunk
on the side nearest to the magne-
tized tire. Select the rear tire for
magnetizing that's nearest to the
side of the trunk where you can
install the unit.
• With cars that have the battery in
the trunk, magnetize the tire that's
farthest away from the battery. If
noise is picked up from the battery
or battery cables, unit operation
may become unstable.
The part of the tire magnetized
• About 90˚ (±15˚) of the tire's cir-
cumference is magnetized. (q)
• The remaining 270˚ (±15˚) of
unmagnetized tire must be com-
pletely demagnetized. (w)
• Perform magnetizing and demagne-
tizing across the full width of the
tire from edge to edge.
