7. Starting

Caution
 Keep away from hot parts. The muffler cover and other engine parts become very hot during
operation. It may cause serious burns.
 Spray gun
Caution
 Be sure to check that the lock out is engaged
before starting. Water may suddenly jet out
from the nozzle and cause accidents.
Engage the lock out before starting engine.
 Water drain/air bleeder knob
 Turn the water drain/air bleeder knob
counterclockwise until it opens by around half a turn
from the fully closed position.
* Do not turn the knob by more than half a turn to avoid
the knob coming off.
* When feeding water directly from the water tap
(faucet), close the water tap. If the water tap is open,
the engine cannot be started smoothly.
 Engine
 For details, read the engine instruction manual carefully.
1. Open the fuel valve.
2. Turn the stop switch to the "ON" (I) side.
3. Set the speed control lever from the "Low speed" (L) position toward the "High speed" (H) position by
approx. one-third of the way.
4. Close the choke lever.
Adjust the choke lever angle as follows:
 "Fully close" the lever when the ambient temperature is low or the engine is cold.
 "Fully open" or "half open" the lever when the ambient temperature is high or the engine is warm.
5. With the handle or top of the frame securely held, gradually pull the recoil starter handle until resistance
is felt at some point (compression point). Return the handle to its original point and pull swiftly. If the
starter handle has been pulled out excessively, return the handle and pull it again.
Caution
 Do not pull out all the recoil starter rope. Doing so may cause breakdown.
 Do not release your hand pulling the starter handle. Doing so may damage the recoil starter.
 Do not touch the starting handle while the machine is operating. Doing so may cause breakdown.
6. After starting the engine, gradually open choke by turning the choke and finally keep it fully opened.
* Do not fully open the choke lever immediately when the engine is cold or the ambient temperature is low,
because the engine may stall out.
Caution
 Do not put your hand over the muffler when starting the engine. It may cause burns.
 If the engine does not start after pulling the starting handle a few times, too much fuel may be suctioned and
the engine may become harder to start. "Fully open" the choke lever before the next attempt.
