Safety Advisory
Read this manual before installing
and operating the Micropulse
Transducer.
1.1
Proper application
The BTL5 Micropulse transducer is
intended to be installed in a ma-
chine or system. Together with a
controller (PLC) it comprises a po-
sition measuring system and may
only be used for this purpose.
Unauthorized modifications and
non-permitted usage will result in
the loss of warranty and liability
claims.
1.2
Qualified personnel
This guide is intended for special-
ized personnel who will perform
the installation and setup of the
system.
1.3
Use and inspection
Transducers having the designa-
tion
II 3 G Ex nA II T4 X
meet the requirements for electri-
cal devices used in hazardous
locations
DIN EN 60079-15
Devices in this category are in-
tended for use in areas in which
an explosive atmosphere is not
normally expected, but if it does
occur, then only seldom and for a
short duration.
Additional conditions for
operating the trans-
ducer:
- Safety and liability consider-
ations prohibit the user from
opening the BTL.
- The transducer does not have
a ground terminal. Potential
compensation should be
achieved by means of a me-
tallic conducting installation
area.
- The transducer must never be
disconnected while under
power.
Ignition Class "n"
- If the connector is left un-
plugged from the device for a
longer period of time, the con-
nector must be protected from
ingress of dust and water by
means of a protective cap or
cover.
- Check the device in constant
intervals that no damages oc-
cur, if necessary shut down.
Special conditions indicated by
the X symbol:
- Temperature range
-20 °C < Ta < +60 °C.
- The operator must employ suit-
able means to ensure that the
rated voltage of DC 28 V is not
exceeded.
- The device meets the require-
ments for Low-Voltage Devices
according to Table 4 of
IEC 60079-0. (Vertical impact
with a mass of 1 kg from a
height of 0.4 m.)
The relevant safety regulations must
be followed, including:
- Explosion Protection Guidelines
- Installing electrical systems in
hazardous locations
DIN EN 60079-14 (VDE 0165)
- Ignition Class „n", non-sparking
equipment
DIN EN 60079-15
In particular, steps must be taken to
ensure that should the transducer
system become defective no haz-
ards to persons or property can
result. This includes the installation
of additional safety limit switches,
emergency shutoff switches and
maintaining the permissible ambient
conditions.
