Tyres are marked with a large amount of information, including dimensions, type, year
of construction, etc.
E.g. in a tyre marked 205/45 R 16 91V
205 Indicates the width of the tyre, i.e. the distance between the sidewalls in millimetres.
45 States the ratio (as a percentage) between the height and width of the cross-section.
R
stands for radial.
16 states the keying diameter (rim diameter) in inches. 91 indicates the maximum load per wheel;
V is the maximum speed code (T: 190 km/h H: 210 km/h, etc.).
WARNING: Mounting tyres on rims which have a different keying value is absolutely forbidden, as is mounting tyres with dimensions different
from those stated by the vehicle's manufacturer in the registration papers.
Mounting tyres the TWI (Tread Wear Indicator) of which indicates that the tread is excessively worn is forbidden.
With regard to the width, refer to the specific tables.
Check that:
- there are no signs of damage on the tyre or rim (cuts, dents, tears, etc.). In the event of damage, replace the part.
- The tyre temperature must never be less than 15°C: a lower temperature might lead to damage during mounting or demounting opera-
tions.
This manual comes complete with a leaflet describing the procedures for heating tyres, and the times required.
- The chuck must be clean and undamaged.
- The chuck clamps must be fitted with plastic guards when clamping alloy rims.
DEMOUNTING
WARNING: Before proceeding with any operation on the wheel,
check that all contact points between the tyre changer and the
rim, i.e. the tool head, bead breaker shovel and clamps, are
fitted with the special plastic guards.
After breaking the bead and clamping the wheel on the chuck as described in points 10.1
and 10.2 of this manual, demount the tyre by proceeding as follows:
DEMOUNTING THE UPPER BEAD
1- Bring the PT arm to a working position.
2- With the handle (1, Fig. N/1) in a vertical position, adjust the position of the bead
pressing disc according to the wheel diameter, lock it at approximately 10 mm from the
outer edge of the rim and bring it to its end stroke again (see Fig. N/1).
3- Place the valve at 11 o'clock (see Fig. N/1).
4- Gradually lower the PT arm until the disc comes into contact with the tyre bead.
Place the handle (1, Fig. N/2) in a horizontal position so that the disc penetrates the
inside of the well (see Fig. N/2).
5- Start rotating the chuck and lower the disc further; when the gap is large enough, start
lubricating (see Fig. N/3).
N.B.: Lubricate both the tyre bead and the inside of the rim thoroughly and over a
considerable depth.
