individually adjustable hook and loop closures are arranged to close in
opposite directions to prevent the orthosis from slipping.
2 Handling
2.1 Size Selection (Fig. A)
Size selection of the orthosis is based on the ankle joint circumference.
2.2 Adapting and Applying the Product
The initial fitting and application of the 50S8 Malleo TriStep Ankle Orthosis
must be carried out by qualified personnel. On delivery, the Malleo TriStep
orthosis must be tested for the correct fit.
Stage I – Inflammatory stage: To apply the orthosis first open the cross-
wise placed straps and then the individual hook and loop closures com-
pletely. This allows to comfortably get into the orthosis. Place your foot in
the orthosis (Fig. 4) and first close the middle hook and loop closure by
threading the strap through the loop and closing it accordingly (Fig. 5).
Then close the two other hook and loop closures (Fig. 6). Continue with
applying at first the outer (lateral) cross strap (Fig. 7) and then the inner
(medial) cross strap (Fig. 8). Finally apply the pronation strap starting with
attaching the lower part to the orthosis enabling you to pull the foot with
the upper part of the strap into pronation (Fig. 9).
Stage II – Proliferation stage: Mobilization / activation comes to the fore
in this stage. The orthosis is worn with the stabilizing strap and stabiliz-
ing elements. First, open the pronation strap and the cross straps and
remove the foot positioning splint from the orthosis (Fig. 10). Then attach
the stablizing strap to the orthosis from the rear (Fig. 11). The "Ottobock"
print must be must be readable (Fig. 11). Moreover, the red dots on the
lateral pockets should precisely fit the holes in the stabilizing strap. To close
the stabilizing strap place the outer (lateral) strap over the instep, lead it
over the inner edge of the foot and then along beneath the foot (Fig. 12)
and attach it to the lateral ankle (Fig. 13). Proceed laterally reversed with
the strap on the other side (Fig. 14).
In the course of the healing phase the more stable, red stabilizing elements
on the sides can be replaced by the more flexible, grey elements.
The point in time when this exchange can take place has to be determined
by the treating physician.
