OPERATING PRINCIPLE
The telemetric system serves to measure
CSF pressure readings whose relative, time-
dependent changes and characteristics may
allow conclusions as to the function of an
implanted ventricular drainage system. Diag-
nostic methods can be used to initiate a pres-
sure change in the shunt system, which can
then be interpreted. The M.scio's measured

data can be read out and displayed with the
Reader Unit. Measured data are automatically
stored on the SD card and can thus be evalu-
ated at a later stage. The relative behaviour of
the CSF pressure in the shunt system can pro-
vide information about its function. This per-
mits the non-invasive detection and localisa-
tion of an occlusion within the shunt system
and also of a mechanical loss of function.
